So I’m in desperate need of help of trying to figure out it what to do to achieve certain goals and results. I currently own a NON-PP 2018 Ford Taurus SHO, It’s pretty stock besides a K&N CAI and a muffler delete. I’m trying to achieve a better sound without spending hundreds or even thousands on a whole new exhaust system, and definitely want to keep my cats. I’m trying to figure out what would be the best muffler to buy to achieve the loudness but a better tone and maybe a better rumble on a rev instead of straight air. It sounds great while driving but not stationary.

Im also trying to figure out what’s the best tune for the car, I want something reliable yet fun and fast without destroying the engine. I want it to be a daily and keep those qualities.

If you’re able to help thank you so much, I’m also new here so I’m sorry if this is the wrong place.

I added electronic cut offs before the mufflers so it's still stock most of the time but I can bypass the mufflers when I want to play.

best idea - I have straight pipes, zero cats, and use the items in my signature. sounds like crap, however I have gotten used to the sound, but she is loud when you get on her and not the good loud. sounds like a 6 cylinder in a fart fan on high. lots of fap fap fap, now for the turbos no cats best way to go. you can get the ones with oversized cats - however bigger cats for better flow will sit closer to the PTU/transmission/engine. My suggestion cut the third cat if you can for less backpressure and leave the resonator, use non baffled mufflers. It would sound better than stock.

I like that idea, my ideal intention is to get more tone and rumble like when I start up the car but the revs are mostly just air conditioning, when I step on it a tad to get to 3500-3800 it gets that resonated rumble which I like and I also like the sound at full throttle.

However, I don’t know if I should just remove the resonator and possibly replace it with a louder but still baffled?

PS, I want to get better revs without buying a whole system or touching my DPs, and I wouldn’t mind it being a little louder as well haha.

Hmm, now I wish I knew what it would sound like to replace the 3rd cat with an x pipe and muffler delete just for reference. I haven't seen that exact combo in my searches so if you remember one that would be awesome to know.

Never gonna get rumble when the turbo is making a fan sound, I believe all 6 cyl are too small for gurgle or blub blubs. NEVA gonna happen. My neighbor has a 3.2 L infinity twin turbo. Sounds like mine.... Though the Bull would eat him alive.

My ultimate based on cash flow is too buy the Magnaflow resonator which is a perforated Xpipe with glass packing if I understood properly talking to them. So somewhere here I posted the exact model from their custom sho exhaust cat back. My mufflers in my sig are the ones they use. Outside getting the clamp on pipes to buy the two mufflers and resonator you save 2/3rds the price.

I would cut my flowmaster bottle reaonators for the Magnaflow leave my mufflers and put the Magnaflow resonator in.

Last point - X pipes work better in non turbos - scavenging has some limited benefits in turbo applications. The pulses of pressure created by the engine releasing its exhaust NOT going through turbos which feed off those pulses are the reason we see limited purpose. My best guess is we can use X pipes to help cancel turbo noise.

Now enter all the others to correct me.

Yeah, I personally think these things sound like crap if you try to modify the exhaust system. They're just not made for it. It's the sleeper, made to romp on and surprise people. To get the V8 sound, I drive my S550 or the 03 GT.

Agreed - I would love to 'increase' the sound of these cars without it sounding like hot garbage, but it just isn't feasible. Plus, the steep price tag for a mediocre sound is pretty much a nail in the coffin for me.
