Need help with a SLO

S'up everyone,

I used to hang at shofrum all day every day with my green 91 plus car, but I have been SHO-less for years and years. (My last login was 2009 when i found out about the gen 4 sho) LOL!

Anywho, A verygood friend of mine is down on her luck and I'm trying to help her out. She has a black 2002 Taurus (not sho) and the seat belt wont retract. I told her I'd look online for her and was wondering... are these things generally repairable, or should I just get a replacement from a boneyard?

Go to a bone yard, should be able to find one cheap. Not sure if autopart store would carry it.

Easiest to find a replacement...or make sure you can find a replacement, then take the one in her car apart. There is (most likely) a spring on, or on the outside of the assembly that you can wind up more to put more tension on the belt.

The above, or the belt may be jambed or twisted.
Usually extending the webbing all the way followed by a controlled, slow retraction will fix it.

Ford belts suck at retracting.

I had pulled the trim back and peeked inside, and it wasn't kinked or twisted. It's just weak so when you pull it out, it wont retract again. I helped it along and it wound up again, but the first person who tries to use it will have no real security from it.
