I stripped the **** out of a valve cover bolt hole (I know, I know....9-14in/lbs). What size helicoil would I need to patch that up? I'm sick of oil all over my front valve cover from the bolt.

I believe they are only 4mm threads. I will have to check tomorrow as I still have a few coils left from the repair set I bought for my engine. I will be needing at least one for the 6th valve gapping service on my engine in the very near future.

Please be careful, my service procedure reference shows 8-11 lb-ft of torque on those bolts.

You could take one of the front bank bolts out when at the hardware store to make sure you purchase the correct size and thread.

They are M6 x 1.0 ... really fun trying to find a helicoil : I found it in a Perma-Coil Kit.

Yep, 6x1.0... Napa had mine in stock. ~$40 from 'em. I don't know what my price is compared to cost though..

Yep,6x1.0. I looked at Napa for a 6x1.0 die, and they didn't go that small. So, if Napa doesn't pan out, you could also try Sears.

the Permacoil from napa doesn't come with a 6mm die. It's a bit larger.. i believe a 1/4-20. It came w/ a loading sleeve (You pull this sleeve back, drop the "permacoil", which is pretty much your typical helicoil, into it and use a 3/8ths wrench to load the coil into the hole needing repair.

You'll never use the same size die to repair a stripped out valve cover. The bolts are a much harder metal then he cylinder heads.
