Just had a lot of work done to my SHO, and I mean alot. However, my secondaries are not openning. Rev the motor up past 4000 rmp and nothing. Here is a list of what was done today. Perhaps something was missed??? I sure would appreciate any advise.

New O2 sensors
SHO Shop Y Pipe W/Cats
New dynomax exhaust system
Complete top 60K service; Valve clearance adjustment, new motorcraft plugs
and wires, new gaskets ect.
Cleaned intake and T Body
replaced secondary controller vacumn valve (for Secondaries)
replaced ignition coil
new fuel filter and gas cap
changed oil to Castrol Synthetic ; replaced filter and oil level sensor
replaced EEC (old one had a chip that had been removed)

The secondary butterflies open when a vacumm is aplied. But will not open at 4000 rpm on their own. No codes

Thanks,

Dave

Plugged in, but the wire or vacuum line, what ever it is, that runs between the two?

uh, don't the secs. close on vacuum?open on no vacuum?

Fungus is right. They are held OPEN by springs all the time. Vacuum from the intake when the engine is running keeps them closed until the computer tells the little solenoid on the back of the intake to "bleed" off the vacuum, thereby letting the springs snap the secondaries open. Pretty ingenious if you ask me.

While a friend starts the engine for you, make sure you see the secondaries close as soon as the engine starts. If they don't, check to make sure they didn't reverse the two vacuum hoses on the vacuum cannister next to the IMRC solenoid. It's a one way valve in there.

If you cleaned your intakes by just shooting carb cleaner around in there you have probably worked crud into your butterfly shafts. It hardens and cakes things up. Same thing happened to me when I cleaned my intakes.
Nothing short of complete dis-assembly and cleaning, butterflys and all will get them working right and not sticking. Be sure to **** the shafts upon re-assembly. They'll work like "butta"

OK, I tried what you said but I do not see anything moving. What am I looking for? I could hear what sounded like a creeky door closing or opening on the small butterfly side but did not hear anything from the secondaries.

Secondaries, Help Please

I had it wrong in my last post about this problem. My secondaries close when the motor is started but will not open at 4000 rpm. Protech Automotive replaced the controller vacumn valve but that did not help. They also checked for current to the plug. I talked to ProTech again today and was told that the computer was not seeing something (forgott what they called it) and that the problem had to be in the wiring harness. They want me to bring the car back so they can run electrical tests on the harness. Man, I put way to much money into this car already :frown: I looked at the plug and it is obvious that both wires have been spliced into in the past. There are two sections on both wires, just below the plug, that are missing the insalation. Both sections are the same size as if they were once spliced into. Which leads me to a question. Does anyone know why anyone would splice into the wires that control the secondaries? If so, What would it be for. I really would appreciate some help here. I dont want to spend anymore money than I have to.

Thank you,

Dave

The previous owner probably thought he could get more performance by controlling them or having them open all the time. What would would want to do is make sure that the wires are good. If they are sending power you may want to reconnect them, use solder and make sure that they are wrapped.

I just posted a new question concerning just that. I wanted to find out if the secondaries could be opened and closed by a remote switch. My car had alot of modifications done to it before I bought it. Being new to these cars I had no idea until after I had it for awhile. Evidence was found that it was once supercharged. It had a chip that was removed. And now the splice evidence on the secondaries wireing.
