Car is at the mechanic, I need a new A/C compressor. I had converted my '89 SHO to R134a. I read this:
Compressor: must be compatible with 134a - any remanufacured 134a gen2SHO compressor will work - I stole mine from a 95 automatic. Napa gets $385 :dribble: + a $60 core so I wont list the part number.

Do I tell my mechanic to get me the compressor for a 1995 Taurus SHO (R134a)? Will that be the exact fit for my 1989 SHO?

Thanks!

UPDATE: I also need a condensor & accumulator. Whopee!

I no longer have the receipts for my White '89 (if Bill Strobel reads this, it's on one of the early receipts).

I bought it with a dead compressor, so I had them get a rebuild and convert to R134a. They got whatever compressor was specified for the '89, and it wasn't anywhere near that price (I seem to recall around $150, it was four years ago).

Don't think there was anything magic about doing the conversion. I didn't go to the bigger condenser that is supposedly the only difference in the Gen 2 SHOs with R134a from the factory.

My mechanic had a hard time finding a compressor for my '89 SHO. I told my mechanic to look for compressors that fit a 1995 SHO. He picked out a Universal Air Conditioning CO101330U for $198.52. Can anyone tell me if that's the right choice?

I can get a good deal on a Universal Air Conditioning compressor, they are great quality and their factory is located within a few miles of my mechanic. According to their website https://www.uacparts.com/Catalog/Index
I need a CO 0061RW 10P15F compressor.

Meanwhile this thread says I need a 10P15F.

This document http://www.acdelco.com/pdf/appcat_buyers/compressors.pdf says I need a 10P15F.

And Kevin says I need a 10P15F. So I guess that's it.

The UAC website has a nice little cross-reference:
10P15F
Universal Air Conditioner CO 0061RW

Autocomp Technologies 110061
Autocomp Technologies 120061

Nippondenso was the original manufacturer. There is a good chance all the rebuilt ones are rebuilt Nippondenso cores.

Are you dealing with new or rebuilt? Who are you comapring?
I'm looking for a NEW compressor as that is what is recommended here in Texas. My car goes to the mechanic tomorrow as it's getting increasingly unbearable driving without A/C in this Texas heat - and it's only 90 degrees outside.

My present compressor lasted a long 13 years on R12. Can't wait to see who made it.

Unless someone says otherwise, I'm going with a Universal Air Conditioning compressor. Their factory is minutes away from my mechanic and they offer a 2-year warranty which I think is the longest available.

While the compressor is being replaced, does it make sense to replace the tensioner pullys?

Are you psychic?

No one is making new ones that I am aware of. My sources can not find new ones so chances are it is rebuilt. Rebuilt ones can do fine and it doesn't matter if it is Texas.

You can replace the tensioner pulleys if you want.

Well, you are right, so right that the UAC compressor is unavailable!

I just bought a 4 Seasons 57365 Rebuild Compressor, off Amazon including next-day delivery for $310. I also bought a Spectra Premium 7-4312 Condenser. I already have an accumulator.

The 57365 Reman 4 Seasons is the correct part # for the rebuilt 10P15F NipponDenso. Had I seen this thread in time, I would have highly discouraged a reman as mine didn't last a year. I lucked up and found a NOS Ford compressor on Ebay for $270. All of the AC parts are essentially the same. The R134A years have the different ports, but you can always buy adapters if your new components have R12 ports. As for the condenser, if the one in there is OEM, you WILL need some retrofit brackets as the newer Motorcraft and aftermarket ones are smaller. Ford changed this around 91. My first aftermarket condenser didn't have them, so I bought a Motorcraft thinking it was the wrong one. The Motorcraft one had the brackets. (I have an 89).

Maybe the only other new one I found was at UAC. Here's another one for $270 http://www.max-ac.com/New-CompressorbrNipp-10P15F-6-Groove_p_4902.html New ones can still be had, but they are extremely hard to find; usually very expensive. This one is reasonably priced.

Bit of useless the knowledge but the 10P15 compressors are also installed in Porsche's.

Mine lasted about a week. Compressor locked up on me. I'm returning it through Amazon and left a scathing review.

I just bought that one.

The only rebuilt compressor I recommend is the Motorcraft. That's what I replaced mine with and have had no issues with it.

I think the key into differentiating "new" vs "reman", from what I've found is cross referencing the 7511749 part #. If I had extra, I'd buy a spare new one for my other SHO when that day eventually comes to replace it---they might be permanently gone by then.

Dude, find a Motorcraft compressor. I paid $150.00 for mine off of Ebay. Runs smooth and quiet.

In my opinion Motorcraft has better quality control standards than other brands.
