Let me start off by saying that everbody is fine and nobody got hurt. I was driving down the road today for the first time in about a month. As many of you know I just put in a new trans. So this was the first time I took it out. Everthing was going good, and I was only doing about 30mph. Then all of the sudden I heard BOOM!!!! The car went straight off the road right for a bush with a tree in the middle. It stoped half way in the bush. I thought the tire blew or something because it made the BOOM. But the tire was fine. Then I thought it was a axle but i couldn't see it because of the bush. I called up a tow truck and got it back to my house. crying at this point because my car is all messed up, and my tire was all pushed up in my fender, all of this just after I got the car back together. I got it home and going trough the reckage found that the spindal came off the ball joint.

This is where it gets weird. The bolt that holds the spindal onto the ball joint was tight. I know i need new ball joints but i didn't know it was that bad. I didn't think this could happen unless the spindal itself it bad?? Im confused here. If the spindal poped off do you think it is the spindal or just the ball joint. So what do you guys think. Im considering just putting a new spindal, and brakes on that side because i can't get the brake off because the bolts are striped. So I think I am just going to get a good spindal and brake assemble, and 2 new ball joints.

Holy crap! I don't think I've ever seen a failure like that even on a regular taurus when I worked at the tire shop. Thank God you're safe! Are the torx heads stripped or the threads? If it's the heads just get a hammer on stud remover to push over the head and remove.

There has been reports of spindles wore out where the ball joint attached and caused a problem like you have. IIRC it happened to someone else a few years ago on this board. Not sure if popped out when they were driving or not.

Yeah it def scared the $hit out of me. If I was going 5mph faster i would hit a telephone pole. That would have really sucked. I guess my spindal did wear out some how and i need a new one.

Wow, even with that damage you were still lucky that it didn't end worse. I haven't heard of other balljoint failures with our type of car. Honda is another story, I've had 2 fail while turning the wheel, where the balljoint snaps causing the spindle to collapse and demolish a driveshaft.

yeah my BRAND NEW AXLES DIDN'T GET HURT. It just poped out of the half shaft. I feel very very luckly that nothing else even got scraped and that no one got hurt. I couldn't belive it.

Oh yeah is it just me or didn't there use to be a "WANT TO BUY" section. There had to have been. I can't find it!!! I want to get a new spindal, but it has to be from a 94 and up.. because that is what is on the car. I think they were junk yard spindals. And I don't want to do that again.

ok.. But is it just me or am i going crazy that there use to be a WTB section???

Oh and do you guys think it is necessary to get a new spindal, or should I just get new ball joints.. It is hard to find one because my car has the 94 and up, upgraded spindals. And most ppl don't want to just sell one spindal. Can you buy a recondtioned one from like autozone?? Because i went on there website, and all I could find is a wheel bearing a hub assembly. But im not sure if that is the whole spindal. I dought it.

No you aren't crazy... the WTB section is temporarily gone.

And no the wheel bearing and hub assembly is just that. A replacement bearing that needs to be pressed into the knuckle, and the hub with all the lug nut studs on it.

post it in the wanted to buy forum???? Where have you been Beth shut that down so nobody but paid sponsers could sell parts. Seeing how all the paid sponsers and moderators are the same people. She had to close it so there is NO wanted to buy and you can't sell parts on SHOFORUM unless your a paid advertiser.
