My Taurus GL

I want to turn my GL into a sho basically and i have a friend up here in saltlake that can help me with a shop, but i need to know all the do's and dont's of what i am doing with this car.
I want a good engine 3.2 or 3.8 preferably and a manual trans. I also need some help finding body and performance parts for my car.
If someone can help me i would appretiate it greatly.

Yamaha 3.0L with MTX (manuel tranny) but with some work you can mount the MTX into a 3.2L.

In my opinion, it would be much more cost efficient to just trade your GL in and buy a SHO.

It will probably cost more $$ to turn your car into a SHO and not look as good as one. Not to mention all the work and time needed to do the transformation.

yeah i picked mine up for about 2500 (decent price at the time, because i didnt know so much was wrong with it...) idk what your GL is worth, but i know SHOs are better cars all together so the 1000-2000 dollar "loss" due to selling your car and buying the SHO isnt really a loss because youre saving time, maybe money, and alot of swearing (including but not limited to f, s, and SOB)

Not worth it at all IMO, unless there is something really special about your GL. Like stated, much more cost effective to sell your GL and buy an SHO.

Check out www.slshoff.com if you havent. You can get in touch with some SHO owners in the area, including Arthur; who is a mechanic who has a bunch of SHOs including a Sable he basically turned into a SHO (SHOble).

yeah not even worth the effort... just get a sho... they are cheap. i got mine for $1800. and if you were willing to put in the work to transform a GL into a SHO you shouldnt have any problems with the amount of maintenance the sho will require:laugh_ti:

i paid 178$ for my 93 SHO and it had under 114k on it, i was planning on doing a complete sleeper car i have a 93 Taurus GL 3.8 and i wanted to do the same project that you are thinking of but im sure there would be a lot of effort going into the transformation, for the best results on info look around for a car named thumper its a taurus station wagon someone made into a SHO wagon im sure the best info would come from the person that created that car. Expect a lot of work on that project but i susport ya all the way anything i can help ya with im glad to lend any advice i can

o and before i forget a mtx off a sho will not fit the 3.8 motor or anything other then a sho without some major modding i already checked into that at a junkyard because they have the mating books. i do believe the T-5 trans matches the volcun motors but i could be wrong. best bet here is to go with a 3.2 motor its a very strong and reliable motor if your gonna do something like that project best bet is to do it right , the yahama motor is a **** of an engine

Honestly, in the end it isn't really worth transforming a SLO into a SHO. UNLESS, you have a SHO with a trashed body, and a good drivetrain, and a perfect condition SLO just sitting around looking for attention. If that were the case, then. . . . .

Honestly, in the end it isn't really worth transforming a SLO into a SHO. UNLESS, you have a SHO with a trashed body, and a good drivetrain, and a perfect condition SLO just sitting around looking for attention. If that were the case, then. . . . .

I can relate, I had a slo I put a lot suspension parts and exterior/interior sho parts on it.. it was great, needed a paint job though, body was in good condition, not a speck of rust underneath anywhere besides the exhaust piping. someone wrecked it.

so I bought a SHO, put some of my old parts on it, the body is rusty... so Im probably just gonna turn it into a cruiser, in fact I even like its automatic, my family owns a transmission shop so Im gonna take it out and rebuild it real nice one of these days. I also like stereo's and im eventually putting in big box and 2 15's. I'm defintely doing stuff to the suspension on this car, but I just don't like the Gen2 look as much.. the Gen1 looks more aggressive and I like oldschool cars. I get a lot of thumbs up and more attention with this car tho.

Maybe one day I will find some 91 slo off an old lady for cheap that has a great body and make a race car out of it lol... or if I ever find a good body gen1 sho that needs drivetrain work for a **** of a deal I would do that. The sho just has more stuff on it and its not as stripped as a SLO from the factory... there is just less work to do and your not destroying a real SHO if you wanted a ******** race car.

Good luck with that! I can find dozens of GEN 1 SHO's for under $1K, decent drivetrain, rotted to ****. Goes with the territory I guess, rustbelt that is. That's definately another thing, as SHO's compared to SLO's come well equipped, something else to factor in.

I bought mine with 118,000 miles, lowered, 17" Einke rims and Nitto tires for $4000.00. I then rebuilt the tranny and got a new starter for $2600.00. I am redoing my brakes for $350.00. So all in all I paid $6950.00 for my 1995 ATX SHO.
