My SHO eats serpentine belts, any suggestions?

My V-8 seems to enjoy eating the edge off of the serpentine belt. Tonight I was driving home with the A/C on and I hear this noise coming from the engine that was directly related to engine speed. When I got home, I popped open the trunk and notice the edge of the belt was missing a groove at some points and the shredded remains of it on some of the pulleys. This belt is a Kelly Springfield brand belt and it's been on the car for less than 4 months. The very same thing happened to the old belt so can anyone give me ideas why this is happening? Thanks.

As far as I know, everything is fine. I had a Goodyear Gatorback belt on for about 6 months before I put the Springfield on and it wasn't damaged at all. The reason I took it off was because it made the loudest whine and I couldn't stand it anymore so I replaced it with a regular v-belt. I don't care to replace it again because it only cost about $20.00 to do it, but I don't want it to be a regular occurance either.

I'm not sure how you put a V-belt on there since it is made for a serpentine belt.

I would run the car and examine everything closely.

Serpentine belts are still considered V-belts, but they usually call them ribbed or just serpentine. Like Jason said though, you've got a mis-alignment somewhere that needs to be found. With the motor off, have your lovely assistant hold the tension off of the belt. Then you can do a wiggle test on each device that the pulley touches.

I know there is not much room in there but you can also put a straight edge across the face of a pulley and then check to see that the distance from straight edge to belt is the same. Any difference in measurment means something is ****-eyed.

It's not uncommon to have the belt misaligned on the A/C compressor pulley or the crank pulley. It's easy to have the belt off by one groove/rib, which bends the last rib up over the outer (or inner) lip on the pulley and destroys the belt quickly.

The PS pulley is easy to bend too if it gets hit with something. Is the outside edge of the belt being torn up?

I went ahead and replaced it with another Gatorback belt and the strange thing is that this one doesn't wine like the other Goodyear belt I had on. It's running good for now so I'll wait and see what happens down the road.
