Ok first a little run down. I have owned this car for about 5 years and have done lots of work to the car. Most work done by my mechanic, dealer or Rymer(ACDelco). I was just to intimidated by this car and i want every thing done right as i am not too mechanically inclined.

The problem now,I just got my car back from dealer bout a month ago. I had her in there to put a new rack on.Finish touches on steering system. Was leaking pretty bad and had an awful i need a new pwr strng pump sound.
Got home figured i would change the oil. She was sitting for a while because i had to take of my father. I just refused to beat on her til every thing was right. So i let her sit.
On my way to pick up oil for my girlfreinds car,I was coming up a hill and she just wouldnt go into second gear and when she did it banged really hard. Got to flat ground settled down shortly and same thing.Took her back to dealer :cuss: pretty ****** off. They tell me i need new cam seals and other things(will specify all of them later). What i believe to of happened is after her sitting then me changing the oil as i was going up hil the oil just bust through all the seals(purely my opinion).I have had smoke coming from where cam sensor is for some time.
As i said before the dealer also said i need valve cover gaskets, head gaskets, wires, plugs, intake gaskets, tranny screen and oil pan gasket.I think the tranny screen does not need to be replace because when i put a used tranny in i had him put a new screen in, i believe they are saying this because i told them i had a problem with my tranny.

The Plan
My plan is to do all the things they say but more as it is time for 60k anyway.
I plan on getting the complete gasket sets from RCM both upper and lower. It has all the gaskets and seals i need. I am gonna order the cam seals from ford as i have read stories on the others. I am also gonna order the sensors i will need from them(RCM) and the timing belt. The thermostat and plugs from ford. The wires i am unsure about yet.The water pump and serpentine belt are done already. The valve shims i am still a little confused on.
I have talked to Area 91 about doing the labor on this as i see his well respected in this forum with lots of post and is in my area.I am waiting for a reply.I feeel that this is a little to much for me to try to accomplish as i said before i want it to run perfect(well close enough:))

So please any comments, advice, suggestions ANYTHING please tell.
I have put alot into her and want to see her the way she is meant too.

:thankI think this forums are great.I am a member of one for my Lexus and why i did not think of lookin for one for my SHO is beyond me.:smash:

the best thing to do is buy a decent repair manual. then its as simple as following step by step instructions. and use PB blaster on everything

i wouldn't go spending money on parts you might not need. It is possible that the smoke you are seeing is from the front main seal or oil pan gasket. My cam sensor cam seal is currently leaking and it doesn't smoke. Just do a visual inspection to determine which seals are leaking.

What year and MTX or ATX (I am guessing ATX)?

I doubt you need head gaskets.

Do you have oil leaking through the cam seals? The oil just dosent bust through the cam seals.

Intake gaskets last a long time and do not need to be replaced very often. Your intake couplers will go first.

AREA91 has my thumbs up. He can do everything your asking and more. Good guy, reasonably priced, and quick. We need a few more like him!

Your plan sounds pretty good, but for any future work you need done stop taking your car to a dealer! Never again. Brian will take good care of you.

Unless the person working on your SHO is driving one, run away fast.

SHO repair list

I would second the motion of getting the 60K done. Shophoenix has a great write up on this, even if you are not mechanically inclined.

http://www.shophoenixproject.com

What you may find, as you do the 60K, is that you have located the source of the oil leak (my bet is rear valve cover gasket) and won't need to fix or replace everything -- for example, the cam seals.

i am hoping that the cam seal or sensor is bad which i think it is because like i said before, i was not having a problem with tranny til i did the oil change and went up hill. Then my tranny started acting up like it didnt wanna go into gear and when it did it banged really hard. I agree on the dealer, the mechanic that was there before had experience with the SHO, but now he is no longer there.

I'm not at all familiar with the ATX, but you didn't by chance accidentally drain the transmission fluid instead of the engine oil and then add 5 new quarts of oil to the engine did you? Probably silly of me to ask.

Anyway, you plan sounds good except I will add that you should use the Ford seal for the front main seal and rear main (changed only if the transmission ever needs to come out). I would also recommend a Gates brand timing belt because it has the proper markings for both MTX and ATX. If you are getting a lot of smoke and stink from an oil leak, then check the oil pressure sensor. Those are cheap to replace and make a big mess when they leak; and they leak on the converters thus the smoke.

This is soooo true. Sent my 92 to Ford for repair and got it back with a realy screwed up engine, oil in the plug wells and a $700 dent in the fender.

Will either Do-It-Myself or take my SHO to a forum recommended shop for repairs.
