The SHO died on the way home from church today. I left from a light with my foot in it a bit and it was like someone pulled the plug out of it. Or better yet, like you just hit the **** switch on a jet ski with the throttle open. Tough for me to tell the differnce between an electrical quit vs a fuel quit. It just dropped to zero and I coasted to side, no sputter, just quit.

Anyways, the wife said it happened once before about 2 weeks ago. Of course she doesnt know to listen for fuel pump or check tach for 300 rpm needle movement. I was glad it happened so I could diagnose.....well, I have no clue.

I hear the pump kick on when I turn ignition to on.

I see the tach move off of zero when it turns over.

I have no codes being thrown. Last time I got a CE light, I got the "Secondary fuel pump circuit failure" which I have no idea what it means as far as replacing. But the light stopped coming on and car ran fine.

2 minutes later the car starts and I drive home.

Never seems like your problems ever match the ones you search for on the boards as I was not in luck.

Suggestions?

It's probably one of two things. Either the crankshaft position sensor is cutting out or the integrated control module (ICM) is experiencing heat affected failures. You will get the "Secondary fuel pump circuit failure" if the fuel pump relay in the ICM is tripping or if the engine stalls with the ignition key on. The CPS failure could be causing the latter also. One telltale clue would be the tachometer dropping immediately to zero when the engine loses power. If the fuel pump quits, the tach will still register the engine rpms as the car coasts to a stop. As far as the costs go, the ICM costs more, but is much easier to replace. I'm sure you know what the CPS replacement entails.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune with the SHO. Sounds to me like the CPS (crankshaft position sensor). I can't tell you how many accidents I narrowly missed before I finally took mine in and had it's CPS replaced. Oddly enough, my SHO seemed to quit right as the stoplight would turn green. It wouldn't restart until the light turned red..... My CPS died before 80K miles.
Hope this helps - good luck.

Ok, I thank you 2 for the input. Scott, as usual, "You Da Man!"

Now for some dumb questions: Which one is the ICM? It isnt the DIS is it? One of your slick pics with the arrow on it makes me see the light. Any way to test it as it isnt throwing a CE code.

No the car never quit before at a stop or anything to trip that secondary circuit failure.

The same thing happens to my car sometimes I'll come to a rolling stop and put it in reverse or go to put it in reverse and it will stall only once and a great while. Do I have the same symptons... frown

Ivey...not all codes will throw the CE light, but they are still stored in the memory. Also...did you check your battery terminal connections? Make sure they're clean and have a good connection. This could also cause this type of problem.

Too bad your girl left you stranded. The White Angel hasn't done that to me yet...I'm saying no more lest I jinx myself.

Hope you get it figured out soon my friend. Dreamcruise on Woodward is out for me BTW, but I'd be up for meeting somewhere with ya for a visit.

Ok, I have a used ICM on the way. I really hope that is the problem. The SHO quit twice more since I posted previously. Didnt have a single problem at the strip on Friday though. Both on sunday on the way home from Church...same place as last week strangely enough. The eng immediately died (tach to zero as if the plug was pulled). Immediate cranking over of the engine showed tach at 400, so I believe my cps is fine. I hope to get that ICM installed and find out the problem is fixed.
