14,000 miles ago I performed a 4 wheel brake job with Powerslot (sport) rotors and EBC redstuff pads. Right from the start I noticed a "ribbed" feeling from what I thought was the front rotors, that was much more pronounced the harder I braked. I double checked everything, including the direction of the slots on the rotors. Everything looked fine, so I figured it might go away after some miles. No such luck. So, last week I had the OEM rotors turned and put them back on. No other changes, I even re-used the same front pads.

Smooth as silk. No idea why these rotors felt so weird, but even my passengers could feel it! So, buyer beware. I am sure someone will suggest there was a flawed install or defective rotors, but the Powerslots look pretty normal after removal and inspection and all I changed were the front rotors to correct the problem.

Thought I would inform others just in case.

where the rotors drilled or slotted?
thats a somewhat common complaint with drilled or slotted rotors, the vibration and pedal feedback.
i'd say your experience was standard. stick with blank rotors.

Slotted, not drilled. I did a lot of Googling and though some complained of slight vibration, this was just plain obnoxious.

My experience wasn't as bad, but noticeable under hard braking, it has a roar to it, but no vibration. My problem is the dust shield on the rear passenger side sometimes rub the rotors causing a grinding sound, I can't for the life of me figure out why other than the drilled and slotted rotors are slightly thicker than the stock rotors. Easy fix: remove the dust covers, or at the very least bend it back off the rotor slightly.

Ditto on slotted rotors giving you feedback. The quality of the rotor & slot will be a factor as well. With the Power Stop brakes (drilled/slotted) I have, this feedback is minimal except under heavy braking. Even then, it's nowhere near objectionable. I think Power Stop's chamfering process has a lot to do with it.

I already had the fronts replaced once back at 20K miles. Checking my records, the ones I just had resurfaced had about 40K on them and always felt a little weird after hard usage. Apparently not warped though, as the runout was OK and they were resurfaced successfully.

Now that I know to avoid the slotted rotors, my next set will be a quality blank like Brembo or EBC, but no slots.

I might try these : http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/s...0/SHO/6_Cyl_3-dot-5L/E35RK7510.html?loc=Front

Anyone use them? Impressions?

I think the Powerslot, coupled with the Redstuff pads is what made the feedback so pronounced.

I have Yellowstuff pads on my '94 with slotted rotors (that I need to return to Tim Tyner!), and the feedback in the pedal and steering wheel is unreal.

Similarly, I have EBC slotted rotors and Akebono ceramic pads on my Discovery, and only under the hardest braking do I feel anything.

Seems like the EBC pads are really at home with non-slotted or non-drilled rotors.

I will try, hard use for me is cutting across five lanes of traffic to save 3-4 cents a Gallon or a Dunkin Donuts fresh coffee. They called yesterday said should in about 2-3 days after they apply the rust preventative coating. I have the new calipers from NAPA with the same black rust coating so the rotors and calipers should at least match. Trying to get my MGP covers, rotors, pads and make a day of it before Carlisle. I also have a Indy road trip soon to get some ops check time.

I've used BrakePerformance for years - their customer service sucks with a capital S (don't even think about trying to return pads to them that they got wrong). But I've never had any issues with the rotors and pads I've gotten from them (except one set of pads which were incorrect and they were impossible to get in touch with regarding a replacement so I just went to the local store and bought the right ones on my own).

SHOnuff, the front rotors are acting up again after 15K miles (resurfaced oem). I am looking at a brakeperformance.com "premium" rotor with pad set. Pros and cons of semi-metallic vs ceramic pads?
Any hints on the best blank rotors for the money? EBC? Brembo?

Everyone has their favorites or has a bad customer service story but I had good luck with the Brake Performance set premium slotted rotors and ceramic pads for all four corners. Even had pretty good luck with the set that I ordered for my g/f 2011 Honda Accord. One of the tension springs for the rears were missing but they corrected right away and even sent a new set of rear pads so I already have the next set of rear pads on hand and ready for next replacement.

It sounds like your pads are building up deposits on the rotors again. IMO, you're looking the wrong way. It's not the rotors, it's the pads. Spend the money on better pads. What they call ceramic have very little ceramic, its advertised for folks who are deathly afraid of brake dust. After trying a fair number of pads over years, I've become a Carbotech fanboy. And Carbotech are great on the rotors. Hawk also has good pads, if you stay in the HPS/HP+ range. The track pads are ****** on the rotors (although they stop as well as the Carbotech).

I have the EBC redstuff pads with EBC slotted and dimpled sport rotors, as some of you already know, pretty newly installed. They are absolutely NOT big brake dust savers. In fact, I'm cleaning my car more now from the much more obvious dark colored brake dust. They do work awesome though, and are reasonably quiet AND do not vibrate at all.
