when we got this car, the battery light was always on b/c one of the terminals was loose. we fixed that, and the light stayed on. we couldn't figure it out untill today when we noticed that our alternator was eating a hole in the side of the battery, which had apparently slid off the holder a little at some point. so now we have a ruined battery, and battery crap all over the alternator and everything else around it. do i need to clean this crap off and if so, how the heck do i do this? AAAUUUUGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH shoot

i had the same thing happen twice.

1>remove onld alternator and battery

2>ramove tray

3>wipe off everythinr you can get to with a rag and some simple green.

4>install tray, new batterie, and new alternator(if it killed yours like it did mine.)

be prepared for the batterie light to stay on, mine still comes on faintly at idle.

that's what i figured- I know there has got to be stuff down in the alternator but it hasn't quit yet, seems to be charging ok. probably clean everything for the time being tho- and yes, the stupid light is still on. I'll just do my best to keep up as this thing throws problems my way. BRING IT ON, CAR! squint

BAKING SODA AND A LITTLE WATER. Make a thin paste or solution & get it all over the affected areas. You need to neutralize the battery acid or it will continue to eat away. My tensioner pulley torqued up under my battery & cut through one section, spraying acid all over the underside of the hood, battery tray, AC lines, etc.

Clean it up as you like after it's neutralized.

PS - Simple Green can attack some paints. Be careful.
