Symptoms:
-hazard flashers don't work;
-left/right signals work;
-intermittent function doesn't work;
-washer pump doesn't function when activated on the wand;
-wipers work on low and high;
- high beams work.

Question: how do I get the intermittent wipers and washer pump to function? I first likely need to know where the intermittent wipers are regulated and what operates the washer pump. Will replacing the multifunction switch cure these problems generally? Second, does the wiper mechanism also pump fluid or are there separate mechanisms?

Thanks.

The inop hazards point to the multifunction switch.
I would replace it, and go from there since you are having a lot of problems associated with the switch. You may want to pull the steering column cover off and inspect the wiring to the switch, sometimes the wires pull out of the connector shell and cause wierd problems also.

Problem solved. Replaced the multifunction switch at $50.00 total cost and 30 minutes time. Everything works like it should. Thanks.

50.00 ouch, I got one for 15 from a junkyard because they couldn't understand what I was describing to them, also just for safety clean the so called wand I don't know the technical name, but sometimes it loses contact because it is dirty.

Usually a good cleaning with contact cleaner followed by a good dousing with WD 40 and a touch of petroleum grease in the wiper switch contact area will fix almost all the MFS problems.

I've heard of the "rebuild it yourself" theory. I didn't want to attempt to rebuilt something like that when it can be obtained at a reasonable price. It could consume a lot of time.

I'm not a fan of any "used" electronic devices. The new part has year warranty. I balanced the factors and purchased it. Its all up to what the individual SHO owner wants to do.

Well you really aren't rebuilding the MFS. Just cleaning it. The MFS does not break but instead the grease hardens and prevents the tiny contacts from working.

A good soaking down with WD 40 while working all the mechanisms and then re-applying some petroleum jelly to the wiper contacts will make it good as new if not better.

I have replaced two of these and finally tried cleaning one. I don't think I will ever buy another.

Time is maybe a half hour to clean.
