My Sho has 240k original miles on her, and the trans had lost 1st, now it doesn't have 2nd, or 4th. The original owner did lots of burnouts with stock diff pins, but has a spare trans from another sho with ~90k miles on her.

I need to swap the trans out, and am going to purchase a ceramic tob from shonut, other than that I know I need to work on the diff pins for the replacement trans. I want to replace the clutch as well, and found a Beck / Arnley on rockauto for 102?!

1. Are these better than stock, or less than / equivalent?

2. What other prevantative maintenance should be done to, or items replaced on the spare trans? i want this car to last a loooonng time (in terms of the powertrain, all the other ford parts on her can't be helped :nut:)

3. I had heard that a way to upgrade the diff pins was by using hardened shoulder bolts. Would anyone like to comment on that?

TIA :thankyou:

Looks like the clutch you are looking at is a 9 1/4". Unless you have an 89' with open clutch recalls, it won't work too well.

You need the more expensive clutch, I'm afraid. The correct size is 9 3/4".

As far as the diff on the replacement trans, I would not worry about it. Once you swap trannies, you can ship YOUR trans to Bizzy(SHOForum owner and MTX-4 master of the universe) and have it rebuilt. Then, you will have a spare "bizzy'd" trans with heavy duty diff pin retainers(roll pins).

IIRC Centerforce = bad and you can just weld the diff yourself if you don't want to opt for a whole rebuilt trans. Just weld a piece of steel bar to the diff pins and to the bolts on the diff itself, try to keep it the same on all sides as to not through the diff off balance. Id recommend having it done professionally so you don't melt the aluminum diff that the roll pins are in. If im wrong about any of this guys feel free to correct me:thumb:

Any other options? I want to do all of the work myself, and have access to a machine shop. I will be pulling some components tomorrow, in preparation to pull the trans. I have the spare trans, so I need diff pins, tob, and clutch, and ideas on other things that could be used?

I happen to have some spare Titanium valves off of Ebay...are the differential pins hardened? What other methods have people used to fix the diff pin problem?
