ATX tranny work is often discussed ($2500 for a remanufactured + install for any serious problem), but how much does MTX tranny work cost?

If it's clutch/throwout bearing, I've heard like $600-$800, but what about major work? Like the gearset itself, or the differential pin grenading? Or a complete reman+install?

several years ago, Ford replaced my clutch and rebuilt my tranny......clutch job was $800......total bill was a hair under $1900....that was replacing all synchros and any questionable gears.....I'll look for the receipt and give a more detailed response.

SHOshop quotes $999 exchange for a rebuilt tranny. That does not include a rebuilt differential though. If the diff is blown you might as well get a quaife because the new diff from Ford is about the same price.

The rebuild kit is $599 from SHOshop. The synchros are very expensive!

I got a clutch install (labor - bought my own parts), flywheel turned, differential pins replaced (for prevention, it costs much more if its already broken) and had new blocking rings put in for $569 labor. But.. thats an ideal price and I got lucky with a reputable shop. I would recommend not looking for a low price but focus on a reputable shop that has done SHO's before or a Ford dealer. Any transmission place can rebuild a transmission, but the process of removing it and the clutch involves removing the subframe, part of the intake manifold, and a lot of other things. Stuff I didn't realize until I watched the clutch install video. It's a complicated procedure and you don't want just anybody doing it.

FWIW, I charge $275 for clutch labor (basically what's involved to remove the tranny. I charge $150 labor to go through the tranny and "refresh" needed parts.

I grabbed the last 3 diff pin kits I could get my hands on, as they are now obsolete from Ford. So don't expect to get your stock diff rebuilt in the future, if you want to make it stronger you'll have to fork the $$ for an aftermarket diff.

Putting in a new diff (regardless of stock of quaife) is a whole different ballgame, as there is lots of extra time involved in taking off the old ring gear and setting the pre-load correctly.

I spent $2000 for my MTX. I had the Quaife installed, all the bearings and syncros replaced. That cost included the Quaife. If your diff pins grenaded, usually you have a hole in the case. That will add $$$$.
