SOO, Can the MTX come out with a good Socket wrench set? There is a jack under the engine and the car is high enough to pull it out from underneeth.
What other tools may I need

Oh i have a 89 mtx and the other car is a 90 MTX. Are both of these Cable Shift?

The tranny is attached to the engine and the subframe. the whole assembly sits ON the subframe, and there's not enough clearance to get the tranny off without:

-Lifting the engine out of the car
-or Dropping the whole subframe then taking the tranny off the engine

Either way expect a lot of work if the bolts are rusted. You'll have to take the shifter off, and if you drop the subframe expect a huge hassle w/ taking the y-pipe off. (I spose it would still have to come off if you lift the engine. :D

Next time you post, be patient after you hit the "post" button. You got triple posts!! :D

Yes, both 89 and 90 have cable shifters.

Unless someone swapped it out with a rod shifter.

Things to do:

Support engine
Remove starter
Remove y-pipe
Remove subframe
Remove halfshafts, etc.

Big pita to do with hand tools but it can be done. You're in Cali so hopefully it won't be such a pain.

You may as well get the halfshafts while you're there if they're any good. Always nice to have spares.

I have removed several trannys without dropping the whole subframe. Remove the drivers side subframe bolts and losen the pass. side ones about half way. Don't forget to support the engine. But hey if its a junk yard sho just get it out the easiest way. :D

After taking the subframe out from under the car... I suggest pulling the engine and tranny out of the top. I really, really suggest that. I'll add pictures to my website of the uglieness.

If the subframe was already out he just wants the tranny. It would be easier to just take of the tranny mount and then unbolt the tranny to engine studs and bolts.

Make sure you remove the two oil pan to tranny bolts on the bottom and the y-pipe, BEFORE you lower anything to the ground and make those bolts inaccessible. (sp?)
