First off let me say that I am very grateful for all of the help that I have gotten from shoforum! If it was not for everyone on here and that handy little search button I would be lost so THANK YOU!!:thankyou:

original clutch I presume. Have been having trouble getting the car to go into first gear. Sometimes it will go right in other times it wont. Had previously posted about this and followed everyones reccomendations about shifting into 2nd gear and then into first or shifting into first a little faster and it would work half of the time. So I decided to order a clutch cable bushing from shosource hoping that maybe it would take some of the harshness away. Went to install and I could move the clutch fork lever( not sure if that is what its called) with my hand. I had the pedal propped up with a block of wood. What I am wondering is should I be able to move that lever by hand? Or should it have any amount of play in it? Anyways but the new bushing in and seems ok 1st gear is still a little notchy but it will go in without having to shift to 2nd now. Also should I have gotten some clicks out of the clutch pedal after removing the old bushing and installing the new one? If I push down on the pedal to the floor and lift it all of the way up nothing. If I pull up on the pedal by hand there is only half an inch till it stops is that normal or is my adjuster out of whack?

with the pedal propped up, the lever should move freely. from the "up" position, the pedal should only move slighty up to release the adjuster.

Ok so the play in the lever on the trans is normal when the clutch is propped up. And when adjusting the clutch the pedal should only move slightly. I defenitely did not hear any clicks like many others have described. So I would assume that it is fully adjusted. Do the adjusters go bad? Or have a high failure rate?

i've seen them have problems before, but you should notice odd clutch engagement or some kind of symptom. basically sometimes they won't hold adjustment, or "slip". how does it drive?

Drives fine no problems just that 1-2 gears are a little notchy. It was sitting for a while before I got it not sure excactly how long. Trans fluid has been recently changed to Mobil 1 ATF. Dont know if it is an internal problem maybe a TOB or something of that nature?

Throwout bearings are not internal. They push on the pressure plate(attached to the engine) to release the clutch.

Is it more difficult to shift as the RPMs go up?

Is the "bite" of the clutch way down on the travel of the clutch pedal (practically in the carpet).
Does it shudder when you are in reverse and backing up slowly.
Those are good indications that the Throw Out Bearing is nibbling away at the pressure plate fingers.
May not be that, but just about all misbehaving can be traced back to that.

Shifts the same no matter what the rpms are. As far as the clutch letting out it is about halfway. And when backing it does not shudder. Like I said before its hit and miss it seems to go into 1st better if I am rolling a little right before I stop. I have not tried the synchromesh either I don not have a drain plug installed, Although I would like to get that done.
