I have had my car on jack stands for about a year slowly working on it. I lowered it the other day and took it for a drive. The transmission has 1st, 3rd, and 5th. 2nd, 4th, and reverse(I have gotten in reverse a couple of times, but not easy) will not engage. It feels like it goes into 2nd, 4th, and reverse, but when you let clutch out there is nothing. If pull the shifter towards myself when I am trying to get into either 2nd or 4th it grinds. Any ideas? Thanks for your help guys!

Got both shift rods bolted up correctly? Stock shifter or short shifter?

I agree with Kevin, sounds like a linkage issue. Something may be broke or bent, preventing full engagement. this could also create the grinding issue you're having. The only other issue that could be found(that I can think of) is an internal issue involving the blocking rings and/or syncros. However, that issue usually shows up in a single gear setting.:salute:

It's a stock shifter and I never removed it or touched it. Worked before I put the car in the air, and now it does not. It is mind boggling to me.

It's possible, with the car sitting for so long, that the linkage(inside and out) could have shifted around to where they need to be adjusted. Whenever you park something for such an extended time, you always have to take environmental expansion and contraction into account. :salute:
