Anyone ever try Royal Purple, Redline, or Synchromesh in their 1st gen MTX's?
Thoughts?
Rob

Yes, yes, and yes. Not me personally though. All the fluids have been tried and discussed. It just depends what works best in your Trans. What works good in one may not work good in another. I use plain store brand Dexron III in both of mine. No issues.

My early '89 eventually grumbles about anything if it's not Type F.

Actually had a guy at Autozone tell me that fluid can't be called for in an '89.

I'm running Royal Purple in my 91' SHO(original MTX w/230k+ miles) and I've been extremely pleased. It's a little notchy when cold, maybe due to age and mileage on syncros and rings, but shifts are very smooth once it get's warmed up. :salute:

Thank you all for the replies! Mine tends to slightly grind when I put it in reverse. It probably has the original fluid in the tranny, which needs changing.

Make sure that you are shifting into a forward gear first, before shifting into reverse.

As others have said, use whatever fluid your tranny likes.

What I do is drop it into 4th then up and over into reverse. It's a habit for me now and I don't even think about it.
