OK, I hope you guys aren't getting tired of hearing about my transmission woes, just trying to make the best decision here. I have a small crack in the case of my MTX. Can this be welded so that I can have the unit rebuilt? Has anyone seen one welded and know if it holds up? I know that broken cases are pretty normal on SHO's so I was hoping some one had experience. I'd definately rather have mine rebuilt than go with a junk yard unit. Money is tight so I was hoping for a solution around $1000.

I must add that broken transaxle cases aren't normal for SHOs, but they aren't unheard of, either. They likely have a higher probablility of occurrence on SHOs that are abused or raced though.

Are you sure it's a true crack and not just a casting imperfection? It's common for the surface to look cracked when it's really just a result of the casting process.

If it's a real crack you can try patching it up with some JB weld. Cheap and strong.

If you are talking about the casing that houses the clutch/FW/PP and input shaft then I would say that is a easy fix. I had a half-moon crack in mine. When I did the clutch job I took some JBweld type product and filled in the crack. Worked quite well IMO.

If your crack is in the guts of the tranny and leaking ATF then your looking at a new tranny.
