My 95 has been bogging down between 3500 and 4000rpm. It doesnt matter what gear im in. It doesnt happend all the time but when it does it feels like ive thrown a anchor out. Its not a sputter feel but more like im dragging something but only at a minumal of 3500 rpm. I had a 93 and the rear brake wouldmt release while driving and it feels simular but when that happend i could smell that and the rotor and wheel would get really hot , that isnt the case now with the issue im having.

Obvious question, but you have checked the butterflies for unimpeded operation?

Here's another question in this area; does the computer "know" the secondaries going to open and already have more fuel dialed in, or does it just react as in the case of the throttle?

The butterflies open up different intake runners that better match the engines' needs at the higher rpms. It does not trigger more fuel or anything like that.

Got it. I thought maybe the ECU could have been "expecting" more air and making it run rich for a bit.
Fwiw, my '95 Sable feels like its dragging an anchor around, no matter what I do. Brakes are good, tranny is good, no engine codes etc.

Your 95 Sable may have the 3.8 Essex engine which has great low end torque, but is not exactly known for snappy acceleration in any gear or at any speed.
If it is an Essex and it is still running, it must have had new head gaskets by now.

Sperold,
I was really just making fun of my car, compared to the SHO. Its a Vulcan 3.0 & even though I'd really enjoy some more power, I'm content for now. I'm actually pretty impressed with the performance, given the less than favorable hp/lb numbers.
My last Essex motor went 207,534 miles & outlived 2 trannies & one Sable before some buffoon ran Sable # 2 in to the back of an Eldorado (3 days old, not my best moment). Never overheated as long as I had it. That engine has gotten a bad rap, but mine was top notch. Perhaps it received a new set of gaskets before I got it.

Since the TB was apparently the issue, I would check the intake for deposit buildup, especially the EGR "nostrils", if the problem continues.

^^^ Yeah, must have been pretty nasty in there to cause that kind of bogging. Maybe there was some crud on the MAP sensor? I don't know how difficult it is to clean the butterflies, but I think I would do that too.
