Chris (shadetreeshoguy) was asking for updates on the Supra so here they are. She currently is up on jackstands for hopefully the last time before streetable. The gas tank has been dropped to be modified, get a new 255 lph fuel pump and new sending unit. This gives me access to reweld the axle perches. Under the hood sits the ct-26 turbo, FMI, and custom piping from the turbo to the FMC. I need to up the injectors again to feed the needs of the FI and finish welding the exaust to and from turbo. Then it is reassembly of the interior and troubleshooting the symptoms of any major modifications done to a car :D

My goal was to get it done last year but that never happened. I ran into way too many problems. I have been able to ignore *cough* take my time this year on it. I have not driven it on the street since 2001. Since then I had a 5.0/AOD combo in there I never ran because it was way too easy to drop in that combo and figured that adding a straight axle under it would take alittle more thinking :bonk:

So, you are running a live axle in the front. I forgot what you said it was from....?

That's sure an interesting project. You do all the work yourself?

Front axle is a Jeep Dana 30. I wanted this straight axle because it is one of the smaller, yet more powerful fronts. All the work has been done by 2 of my friends and myself.

Well I welded up the front track bar, rewelded the axles, changed the injectors again, attached the 255 lph fuel pump, and some other "stuff" I am still hoping to finish it this year but with sunlight against me it may take me an extra month. The exaust is next on the list as is the oil and water cooling of the turbo itself.

Exaust to and from turbo is welded. I snapped this pic:

I am getting close...I need to finish routing the high pressure oil line to it and finish the mods on the gas tank and she will fire up. Unfortunately I am going out of town this weekend so working will resume on it Monday. Also anyone got any suggestions on where I should plumb the water cooling for the turbo? It is not absolutely necessary to run them right away but I want to get them done as soon as possible. Currently there is really no where in the cooling system to tap off of. Anyone have any experience with some sort of "stand alone" cooling system? I have seen them in aftermarket supercharger kits with their own tank and (electric) pump.

Chris,
If you're going to use the stock radiator coolant, just tap into one of the heater hoses heading TO the heater.

Thanks Tom I will see if I can route it there and back without any issues.

Here it is...She was fired up yesterday. Royal mess: As soon as startup the turbo was not spinning and the engine was grasping for air. The motor would not rev above 2500 rpms. Also there was a loud clanking sound from the bottom end that was not there before the turbo. Uh oh, what the **** broke? I think I may have spun a bearing. So back into the garage and up on jackstands we tore apart the front suspension and took the oil pan off... no metal shavings  Checked the rod bearings and the #4 cap was loose...not to bad but enough to move it. We unbolted it and there was some wear on the bearings. WTF this motor has less than 5 hours and not even 2 miles on it I thought to myself. So out to Autozone to put in new rod bearings. All the bearings were replaced and now I am wondering if this motor was really rebuilt before I got it since the bearings were not what the seller told me they were. Okay, pan installed after making sure there was nothing bouncing around in the block, suspension bolted back up (that was fun), turbo pipe reconnected, new oil added and here it goes...startup...STILL CLANKING. Okay now I am ******. WTF is wrong. Motor ran strong and fine before the turbo and now there is a major knock. Pulled off valve cover:fine. Checked old oil with magnet to make sure no metal: fine. Tranny? Torque converter? Sure enough, not one but all 4 torque converter to flexplate bolts came loose. Tightened them up and fired her up. No knocking. **** Yeah! This thing spools insainly fast and revs fine. But is the story over? No. The oil pan gasket is leaking bad in the rear so I get to drop the pan again and install another new gasket. 4 days left this year but what the heck lets make this a 4 year long project

Congratulations on being getting it up and running "Right", must have been frustrating trying to diagnose that noise. :thumb: Hope it moves as well as you planned. Good Luck
