I'm sure that this was posted somewhere, but I was wondering if you guys knew of any mod friendly dealers in New Jersey and/or Massachussetts.

I currently just have an Unleashed 93 tune on my car, but plan on upgrading Tstat and 3Bar later on. The car only has 10K miles on it and I have the PremiumCare for 100K, so I am trying to avoid as many warranty battles as possible with Ford should something occur.

Thanks!

Not to throw cold water on the subject of "mod friendly dealers" but here is my question: Suppose you have a dealer with a service manager who knows your car is tuned and thinks it is really awesome. You take your car to the track but the unthinkable happens. You have to have it towed to the dealership because a rod is sticking out the side of the block. Does that mod friendly dealer have the authority to replace your engine without first getting authorization from Ford? If authorization is needed, what will Ford expect of the dealer in terms of checking for the cause of the engine failure?

You definitely have a valid point and I see where you are coming from. However, I do not plan on tracking this car and it is my DD. I just got the tune to make it a little more fun to drive, so I am truly hoping that nothing that catastrophic happens. In your example, Ford definitely should not have to cover that repair

I totally get it and I hope someone can recommend a dealer for you. Given the choice, I would much prefer a dealership that appreciates car enthusiasts and performance. I sure haven't found one in the Minneapolis area.

I am in a similar situation right now. My fuel pump controller module is dying (recalled) but I have a Livernois tune on it and the dealer if telling me they will do nothing about the problems since it is tuned and the warranty is void.

Along with looking for a mod friendly dealer, and I am wondering if the tune will affect whether or not they will perform the recall. I am in Connecticut so if you find a mod friendly dealer up there, please let me know. I will definitely drive up there to things taken care of.

The dealer that I have dealt with so far has treated me VERY well but I don't want to ask them to put themselves too far out there.

As an after note, I am trying to take my computer back to stock with a 2 bar MAP and see if they will honor warranty that way. I'll let you know how that goes.

While not suggesting lying at all, what is wrong with a "don't ask - don't tell" policy? Obviously, that won't work if you go in with bolt-on mods and the tune in the car but if you have reflashed the car to stock, have stock exhaust and air box, why would a dealer even ask about a tune?

You are correct on that policy. There really isn't anything wrong with it. It is what I go with when entering a dealership for anything.

Unfortunately for my situation, at least, I have full exhaust and CAI. I am not going to switch those out everytime I need warranty work. Those things shouldn't void a warranty, anyway. Just bolt on stuff. I will take mine back as stock as possible to a dealer today and see what happens.

Update:

I took the pcm back to stock and reinstalled the 2 bar MAP. The dealer said that exhaust and CAI do not void the warranty. Even got a loaner car out of it. Waiting to hear back from them.

So are you saying one dealer didn't honor the warranty because of the tune. And than you took it to a different dealer with the pcm back to stock and they said ok? I was always worried one dealer might note that on their computer and kinda black list your car. I'm kinda on the same page trying to mod lightly while keeping the warranty.

I think one dealer was giving me the run around due to exhaust and CAI and saying they couldn't "interface" with my PCM. My car starts when it wants to and it started when leaving that dealer. I just drive to the next one and they said that the exhaust and CAI would only cause warranty not to cover the repairs if it was determined that they were the cause of the damage. It didn't seem to bother the guys at all that these mods had been done. Again, though, I did take the pcm back to stock before I took it in. They get touchy when their computers get touched.
