hey guys, here we go. the other day my car started missing like crazy. it felt like it was only runnin on 5 cylinders or somethin. it has no pep at all. coincidentally i had filled up with gas and ran it through the auto car wash just before it started missing. tonite i decided to replace the plugs and wires and boy do i have a mess. i have read many a times that the only way to go is motorcraft wires and plugs. problem was i had already bought bosch plugs and some generic wires a few months ago before i knew about the motorcraft only parts. since i already had these parts around and i had no receipt for them i went ahead and put them on. now the car is missing even worse and it keeps "popping" out the exhaust pipe. i am assuming that this popping is maybe backfiring?? is this most likely the problem of crappy plugs and wires or is there more to it?? i am most concerend why it started acting up the first time before i changed plugs and wires. anyone know if motorcraft wires will fix this??? any help is appreciated.

thanx again

The popping out the exhaust is because you installed the wires in the wrong sequence.

Don't ask me how I know THAT! Jerry can tell you if he wants to.

Scott recently (last week or so) posted the cylinder and coil pack numbering layout. It shouldn't be hard to find.

Chances are, the new plugs and wires will work OK once properly installed, they probably just won't last very long and they may not give a good seal around the plug well.

Correct the wiring and see what happens.

Looking at the engine from the front of the car

Rear bank-1-2-3

Front bank-4-5-6

facing the coil pack:
5 1

6 2

4 3

The engine can barely start, much less have enough pull to get teh car down the street if the wires are on incorrectly. The engine will only be hitting on 4 cylinders. His problem is more likely due to the poor insulation of the cheaper wires and the ungappable Bosch plugs and their combined unsealed plug wells that that let in the unwanted moisture.

If you have a misfire without a CHECK ENGINE light, you need to look at the plugs and wires. Write this down. There will be a test later.

The only correct plug we can all seem to agree on and the best performance for the money with the proper fit are the Motorcraft AGSP32PP. Ditto on wires-Motorcraft WR-4033. Great prices at http://www.fordpartsnetwork.com
The wires need to seal the plug well correctly. The plugs need to be the correct hight to allow said wires to do that. Use the Motorcraft ones.

Nice graphic!
I had a 93 5spd that i did a 60k job on, i decided to go cheap on plug wires and the next thing i know the motor starts missing like crazy, after a litte work, including making sure i had the wires hocked up in the correct firing order i discoverd that one wire accually has seperated within the boot, and this is not something you easly find unless you look at each wire to insure that it is in good condition. just something to think about. p.s. its hard to screw up firing order were it will miss, usually the car will backfire (backfire is not the same as miss)or not run at all if firing order is incorrect, meaning you usally have to cyclinders firing wrong with will case serious driveability problems.
