I was just under my steering wheel for a while trying to remedy my faulty clutch pedal auto-adjust feature.. then i finally settled on manually adjusting it but then when i tried to start the car, nothing.

i hooked up a battery helper to make sure it wasent the batt, no diff. i dont think i hear the fuel pump priming either, but wasent able to find the fuel pump reset in the trunk cabin and no info in my chiltons type taurus manual on that.

checked all the fuses, they're good.

i hear some type of sound from the engine bay as i turn the key but its like a 1/4 second faint sound then nothing.

i checked and wiggled all the connecters i could under the car to try and get her going again but no change.. and everything seems plugged in alright.

could i be missing something? any common wiring issues down there i should know of? is there a trunk fuel pump reset that may be causing the issue (but then the engine would still turn over no?)

all my accessories work fine, just no start or even turn over.

i'm bummed.

its a '94 mtx btw.

It will still crank if the fuel pump safety feature is tripped. Try jumping the wires for the clutch switch, if it cranks there is your problem. Be careful doing it this way because of the lack of a clutch cutout.

i'll give that a shot first thing in the morn..

i always leave the car in neutral anyway so shouldent be a prob.

its still white/pink crossed with red/light blue for the '94's right?

Not sure about the colors. I don't have any of my diagrams on this computer...

there were two different switches hooked upto the clutch pedal..

the higher one had the fatter cable and was white/pink&red/light blue so i chopped it, stripped it and electrical tapped them together for now (i'll get some electrical turrets later" but still nothing when i turn the key.

the lower switch has two thinner cables going into/out of the switch.. both black on the switch side but i forget the wiring sides colours. i'm guessing these have to do with the brake lights maybe? could these cause the engine to not turn over also?

i busted out the voltmeter and so far have checked battery continuity (~12v) and the connections around it.

the previous owner obviously did some work on the ignition key area, but its always been wonky and i dont think it would cut out on me now JUST after working on a totally different area (could the car be that evil?)

if i drop the ignition wires, how can i test to make sure the key-on position is feeding the correct signal?

i'm going to do the ecc test asap but other than that where should i be looking?

uhmm.. the ecc test wont initiate.

i jumpered the right connectors, car was in neutral, p-brake on. turn the key to "on" and just the accessories turned on as usual.

no blinking, no woosh, no ecc test. i scraped the pins a bit on the test connector to make sure there was a good connection. same result.

does this narrow anything down for me? or open a whole new can of worms..

i think i have more replies to my own posts than anyone on the boards.

as it turns out, i had a valet type switch installed and looks like i nicked it with my elbows while working under the car.

was not a clutch pedal issue or ignition cylender (dodged a bullet there)

much thanks for the help though oh..
