You're in ROTC? Laurie did that at UN Lincoln. Are you planning to join the AF? Let me know, I can give you more insight than any recruiter or the like will 'remember' to tell you.

yeah and yeah. as it sits now I'm probably gonna be putting in for Intel as my first choice, aircraft maintenance as my second, and I dunno what I'm gonna put after that. Maybe an interservice transfer...

Aircraft maintenance?? If you go through ROTC and graduate college, you won't be working on any planes, you'll be overseeing the people that do. IIRC, Intel school is about a year long, but may be worth it if that's what you want to do.

Interservice transfer?

aka blue to green. I'd like to be on the ops side of the house and directly influence the battlespace instead of overseeing the people that fix the planes that drop the bombs.(I know aircraft maintenance isn't an ops career field) I also don't relish the thought of dealing with 18 year olds with guns or spending a couple days a week in a missle silo. My eyesight DQs me from pilot or nav and I didn't see the possible benefit of spending 3k for PRK or LASIK for the chance to compete for a slot outweighing the cost.

We have a prior enlisted maintainer at the det and he didn't have much positive to say about the career. Everybody else only cares about them when their shit breaks. Kinda like how nobody appreciates Security Forces till they need them.

Wow, you really have no clue about the Air Force. We really need to talk.

Just to lay it out there, the ARMY does not have more of an "OPS" role than any other uniformed service. What you posted above sounds naive and arrogant.

Www.sorcrace.com first weekend in August. Other than that, nothing huge planned yet. Probably at least one tech meet.

That looks pretty sweet man my B-Day is in August so maybe I can con the old lady into going down there for that.

I know, but if I go blue to green I can pick my top three branch choices with would be infantry, armor, and aviation straight out of ROTC or if they don't have any need for whatever AFSC I get... I know I also oversimplified those career fields.

I don't think anybody's ever called me arrogant before... maybe I should have gotten my eyes fixed...

As a person, I don't think you are. What you said above could lead someone that's spent anytime in the military to believe you were.

maybe I should have gotten my eyes fixed...
Well, unless your DREAM is to fly and that's all you ever wanted to do, you'd probably find pilot training a bit too much. I'm not saying you couldn't do it, but it will completely take over your life and if you didn't want it more than anything, it would more than likely be too much. My dad has been flying fighters for the AF for over 22 years. I remember when he was going through UPT and I we talk about it occasionally (I've considered becoming a pilot). It's rough.

As far as getting your pick on your "top 3".... Sounds like you've been talking to a recruiter. The needs of the (insert branch here) come first. You do realize that if you complete ROTC and join the AF, they'd be looking to make you an officer, right? It's ALL politics.

Recruiters are not to be trusted man, they do and tell you what you want to hear to get you in. Trust me I know I recruited for the NG here in MN and did not get one person to enlist because I was truthful and did not want to be known as a Douche Bag.

Dont get me wrong there are some cool ones, but look out.

It isn't the end of the world that I can't fly, but it does suck.

I'm not gonna bother with a recruiter unless I absolutely have to. I know a couple people that have done it. I'd have to provide a reason for the switch in branch but if they try and stick me somewhere that doesn't transfer over it won't be hard to justify. Plus I can always decline the transfer if it does get approved.
