I don't own an MTX but I would have to say that it all depends on how you drive it.

According to my records on my '89, the original owner had the clutch replaced first at 11,448 miles.
third clutch at 41,950
4th was at 58,652 And is what I would assume the first "upgrade" clutch that the car has seen.
I picked it up with 78k on her from the original owner. Clutch lasted to 105k
Then at 118,500 the factory replacement clutch I installed tossed a spring. Replaced it with a fibertuff.
Now at 160k or so, Im replacing the worn out fibertuff with a South bend
Records are interesting. But Im not afraid to say that this car has never been driven very easy

I got 107k on the original clutch.

90 with still original at 108k and 91 at 156k. Both still feel great. 91 is being parted out and clutch lasted longer then the car.

98k and wasn't shot yet, but put new one in when quaife was installed as it prob wouldn't have gone much longer.
Original owner, 95 MTX, wore through the clutch diaphram fingers at 31 K miles. Second clutch, factory w/ceramic TOB, lasted 72 K miles with much more frequent autocrossing than the first clutch - worn to rivets.

mine went till 250k and was still in good shape id say another 20k left on it

Original small '89 clutch went about 25K in 1991. New clutch wasn't out yet, so I paid for another small one. At about 55k, it was going, and Ford paid for the upgraded clutch in the recall. Got 60-70K on that one. Got a Hi-Revs Jr from the SHO Shop. That was still going at 182K when I sold the car, but it was getting stiff and probably close to replacement. Had about 50-60K on it at that point.
And I always drove the crap out of the car, with many burnouts.

90: Original small clutch lasted past 140K. It was still working OK when I replaced the engine.
93: I replaced the clutch at about 130k. 50K miles later, it still felt decent.

Did you buy the car new? Sure it was the original 9.25" and not the upgraded 9.75"??

Ron, mine lasted past 140 also. Yes, I'm sure it was the small one.

Well, you couldn't be doing many (if any) 7K rpm shifts, driving it like an old lady.... ;-)
Ford even acknowledged in '90-'91 that those clutches didn't cut it.
If you didn't buy it new, I fully suspect it had the upgraded clutch. The stock 9.25 was VERY wimpy. The stamped PP was meant for a 4-6 cylinder econobox.

I have a hard time believing anybody got more than 50-60k out of the original small clutch.

Yep, it was inadequate from the start. Now, the replacement (still sold to this day AFAIK) is just fine.
