Here are some of the official results from the recent Sandhills Open Road Race and Mile Shootout. I competed with my turbo 1990 SHO (for sale in classifieds) in the 1/2 mile contest. Here is my speed, with the speeds of some other interesting cars.

110.53 - 2006 Pontiac GXP (5.7 V8)
111.35 - Subie WRX
118.29 - Lotus Elise
119.20 - 2005+ Mustang GT
119.52 - SVT Lightning
122.24 - E46 BMW M3
122.41 - Dodge SRT-10 Truck
123.25 - Mitsu EVO XIII
123.28 - C5 Corvette
126.26 - C6 Corvette convertible
128.53 - Radical racecar (with a 1300cc Hyabusa engine)
128.57 - 96-8 Mustang Cobra (cent S/C)
131.34 - C6 Corvette
133.57 - ZR1 Corvette
135.74 - C6 ZO6
136.15 - C6 Z06
139.31 - 1990 Taurus SHO
146.57 - ZR1 Corvette (well modified)
146.77 - Cobra Replica (alum body 2k lbs, S/C 4.6 - 550hp)
147.97 - Callaway TT Vette
159.17 - Mustang Cobra 96-98 (T76 turbo - 700+whp)
167.41 - Viper GTS (supercharged)
177.02 - SRT-10 (Heffner Twin Turbo - 1100+hp)

Out of 43 cars to run the 1/2 mile, I placed 9th. And the only cars in front of me were big V8's, most of them in lighter cars with forced induction. The nearest four-door was a BIG block ( as in over 500ci and a lot more than that HP) Crown Vic (10th with a 136.4), the closest thing smaller than a V8 was a the Radical (a little british race car with a Hyabusa engine, 18th with a 128.53), and the nearest FWD car was the Pontiac GXP (V8 engine, 35th with a 110.53).

All in all, I was quite pleased. Had I been able to run the full mile, it looks like I would have placed about the same, 9th-10th, with the only other FWD's being a Mini Cooper (turbo and SC) and a stripped track only SVT Contour, both of which had slower miles than my half mile. All of 7 FWD cars (out of over 110) in the mix, and only about that same number of 4-drs. So the SHO made a very good showing for the FWD 4-dr crowd. Now I am REALLY looking forward to going back with a bigger/badder turbo SHO, and running the full mile!! What a trip to see a street driven family sedan running the same speeds as nitrous fed C6 Z06's and 630hp ZR1's!!

YEs, the Texas Mile in OCt, if I still have the car, I will be running 20+psi on race gas. The 140 1/2 would have been good for near 170 in the mile, so I am hopeful that at a lower altitude, and with the big boost, that mid 170's will be the order of the day. THe Z06's I beat usually run in the mid 160's in the mile (at Arnold, which is 2700ft).

Again Tim great runs. corvettes and Mustangs hate it when they get beat by a Taurus.

To answer Seanmc's question, I hope to get to the Texas Mile in Oct. if the motor holds together during World of Speed next month.

If I do make it in Oct. I plan to run the Zex.

Read this a couple minutes ago and am still laughing.

Nice job in the 1/2 mile Tim! I may have missed it, but why did you not run the full mile?

No cage. The Texas Mile in OCT does not require a cage unless you go over 190, and I will be well short of that speed, so we will see soon enough how fast she is in the mile!
