Wondering if anyone has any experience going for a mild exhaust improvement. Goes without saying the stock setup is quite vanilla however most of the videos / reading materials I have found on aftermarket exhausts for the SHO are guys going a bit farther than I’d like to. My goal is to add a bit of sound without annoying my girl to much, considering going putting the valvtronic universal mufflers on so I can just pick and choose when I want a bit more noise but wondering if anyone else has set out with similar goals and had some luck! Thanks for the help

I admit I went overboard, but for me the sound was my main concern. I run PPE DPs, third cat upgraded to 2.5 in/out diameter, then Magnaflow used as a resonator, followed by MRT axle back with Helmholtz resonators. So far with the I've spent over $2,500 just in exhaust. But the end result is a nice deep rumble inside the cab and out without the rasp, a good cheap option is just try a muffler delete and see if and see if you like the sound.

I would love to duplicate SeanDev's set-up. Still pretty unfamiliar with the SHO's exhaust set-up, and being in California, it's a bit risky to delete the third CAT (they do visual-inspections here).

Would love to do the PPE downpipes someday but unsure of installation costs? So I'll probably keep the third CAT, then go with the Magnaflow (which I had on my Marauder), then the Hemholtz resonators (part no.?). Also unsure of all pipe-diameters (all, a 1/2" larger than stock? What is stock?).

I actually kind of enjoy the SHO's stock exhaust-note. Very stealthy and "European" sounding. I'll be at the red light, then on green, zip ahead 200' of the rest of the lanes' traffic with just that tempered exhaust-note and the engine revving up through its power-band. Still, I would prefer a throatier timbre, that low-frequency rumble we all love.

My resonators were made by the muffler shop, I presented them a pic of his resonators to copy, he perfected his by getting into the technicals of location and size and analysis of frequency changes. I'm not an audio engineer so I cheated and copied and pasted. PPE is 2.5 and our stock diameter is 2.25, I may be wrong though. You might not need them going with Magnaflow, MRT had terrible drone, not returnable, I spent a couple hundred having them make resonators for the MRT. I personally will not invest in MRT again. It does come down to what puts a smile on your face, alot of different exhaust setups are on this forum, and I like how a majority of them sound. I admit it's hard to get a V8 rumble out of a V6.

It truly is hard to get a good sound out the 3.5 EB. Most sound like complete crap regardless of exhaust set up. A lot of Raptor guys hate them for that reason.

I have catted PPE DP's, I had a custom made and removable third cat (replaced with a Magnaflow Resonator) going through stock mufflers. It is quiet, doesn't drone, and doesn't get a lot of attention.

However, in cabin with the AD mounts, it sounds amazing.

Honestly, the best setup for our cars are, remove mufflers, slap vibrant ultra quiet resonators in their place and enjoy. It takes some time for them to breakthrough since initially i was like, couldve used a bit more sound but as i drove over the months, i noticed it was getting louder without bringing drone into the cabin. Is there drone? defintiely, anytime you alter a setup that a company has spent millions perfecting, you will introduce drone but if you want loud, theres no getting rid of it, but you can try minimizing it while still having that punch when you get on the throttle. Another thing i tell everyone is, what works for one will not work for someone else. Also youtube videos are the biggest deceivers, yes it sounds badass in the video till you have to live with it on the daily. So thats my suggestion as far as setup goes.

If I did it over again (instead of what I have in my sig), I would do cutouts that I could activate with a switch, so that I can run loud and proud when I want to or quiet when the drone gets to be too much for me.

Crackle e30 tune from ajp sounds really deep on my sho with catless downpipes to x pipe and 2 large chambered turbo mufflers. Also with ad mounts. Still crackles pretty good with mufflers. Very loud machine gun bangs without mufflers. Sounds cool when downshifting if running straight pipe but its just too dam loud to get on it. Later in spring ill get new rotors and ill do a twisty mountain spirited drive with my mufflered setup with a gopro back there. Hopefully the sound comes in good. I need to research how to make exhaust sounds good on a video.
Probably should do sound video from front with hks intake setup and sound from exhaust. Best vehicle video thats close to the intake sound i have out of the sho now is a r34 gtr. As im also running same hks bovs from Japan.
My mufflered exhaust is best of both worlds. I can still hear all the intake noises. Straight pipe i cant hear anything from up front lol. Super sequential blow off valves. Makes all kinds of different noises depending on boost. With dual hks green filter boost slam back from 2 different pipes. All kinds of not Taurus noises up front. Im very happy with how the intake is and exhaust is now.
