metal noise???

well i have an exhaust leak so that part sounds like shit. now i have this metal noise whenever i let off the gas in any gear. it sounds like freaking crap. Once i push the gas, it seems to go away but once i let it off, it comes back. I am thinking my cats are falling apart inside. I tried banging on them today but didn't hear anything. It sounds reallll bad. Sounds kinda like 5 nails being banged around in a metal jug. Can someone please help me and diagnose this problem? If it is the cats, should i get the pp y-pipe while i'm at it? help. thanks

Check all the heat shields on the y-pipe. They like to come partially loose and can cause that symtom.

well i took my car to meineke just to see if they thought the cats were bad, i also had an exhaust leak to get fixed (damn dynomax shit). So I called them back and they told me the cats were fine but they heard all of this noise in the tranny. Now, I already know that my through out bearing makes a loud ticking noise. The metal noise I heard before has now gone away when i drive it. It is not all the time. So if it isn't all of the time, then does that mean the tranny is fine? What i am thinking is that the cat crumbled inside and blew it back into the muffler. That is why i can't hear the metal noise anymore. I think what meineke heard was the through out bearing. Might my differential pin be bad? That is also another thought. Grrr....I hope it was just the cat. Please help.
