Well, my tach seems to be on the wrong side of the needle stop! I have no idea how it happened. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how do I go about fixing it? I'd be grateful for any help.

I DO NOT  recommend either method.....
Take the dash off it is EAZZZY and put the needle back...
Remember what tools you used and keep them handy, you will be doing this again...don't touch any of the other stuff while you are in there, hope you have a GEN I it is easier...
Bart does this on a regular basis and although no one has ever found out why and it will freak you out....nothing you do or do not do will ever change the bad habit...
Good Luck..
Ma Ma M......Bart likes to play strange..naughty attention getter

WOW! That WAS easy! Nothing like my '97 VW Jetta shoot . It took me 20 minutes and now my tach is fine! Thanks for the help.

Wow, this is weird because my 91 just did the same thing. I thought I was all alone. I need to take the clear cover off anyhow and clean behind there, so I am killing two birds with one stone.
