So sometime during this snow storm I ran over a white plastic tarp. Guess I didn't see it because it was white... and so was the snow. lol

OK, but not so funny is the smell I noticed on my way into work this morning. I pulled over on the highway to inspect and found this HUGE plastic tarp. I pulled of what I could and continued driving hoping my car wouldn't catch fire.

I'm home now but am wondering what's the best way to get this crap off. It's melted all over my Y pipe. There isn't much left but it stinks. Any advice would be appreciated...

Wal Mart plastic bag

It happened to me last summer, I was traveling high speed at night and saw something drifting on road and realized it was empty white WalMart bag... I figure why would I swerve for it! Tho' would just slip by and drift again. Big mistake! it somehow cling between y pipe and resonator... ohh those funky plastic burning smell was so annoying. I decide to check it out and it all wilt to resonator like a pig in the blanket!!

What I did, jacked the car, put on stands. I went under there using heat gun and putty knife scraping what ever left of it then use prep solvent to wipe off whatever left were gummed up there. Finally smell went away gradually!

My mother always told me that if I run over something, I should always watch for it in my rear view mirror to make sure it came back out the back end. I guess this is why. To be fair, you didn't see it so I guess that wouldn't apply...

Anyway, I doubt your car would catch fire due to it, but I suppose it's a possibility. I like quickSHO's idea with the heat gun and putty scraper, but you would have to jack the car up for that...

Honestly, I'd just drive it to it melted off if it was my beater sho, otherwise, eh I'd still just drive it to it melted off.

My days of inhaling noxious fumes on purpose are over. Looks like I'll be getting a heat gun. I already tried with just the putty knife but it hardened so quickly with the low temps here. I don't think you guys are realizing how big and thick this tarp was. It was heavy duty plastic.
