Really aren't capable of going much beyond 144. I've had mine about 149 using GPS on a long stretch with a slight decline, but that's really a ******* contest without a good GPS. If you have a pre-97 tune your OBD-II stops outputting about 124mph even though the analog gauge will continue.

Tire size/wear and the fact that an analog input is used to measure can affect speed by a certain percent.

Without adders getting to something beyond about 133 is boring... ;)

I believe Carter hit 168 with a Vortech centrifugal supercharger.

I pegged the speedo at 150 in SHO R T S 'on a closed road in Mexico' once or twice....with an Eaton M90 supercharger.

Patrick. What is your goal?
You are constantly picking and pecking at all the usual V8 SHO performance fantasies. It is not going to get you anywhere.
I am looking to get out of the SHO game and might be possessed to sell you the engine, tranny, and computer out of SHO R T S. It has low compression on #7 and I am sure it could be re-ringed, but I also have a 49,000 mile pristine '99 SHO engine I might let go of too if you want a fresh start.

Let me know. If there is a sale, bux + will go to SHOFORUM beyond any want ad rate, I promise.

When mine was new it GPS numbered at 145 on a long, straight stretch that might have been very slightly down hill, early in the morning before any wind came up.

But I echo Eric's comments. What are you after, Patrick. These cars are never going to be speed demons, they just were not designed with that in mind. They are comfortable, high speed cruisers. Its very difficult, and expensive, and seldom successful when trying to turn an apple into an orange.

How fairs that tranny at this point? Was it still solid when last used? What is the Stall on it?

Tranny is strong. Has about 30,000 miles on it.

Been over a decade, but if I recall, stall was either stock or +200 rpms over stock. Don't need high stall with positive displacement supercharger low end torque.

Got my torque converter today. This guy was talking WAY over my head,
which doesn't happen very often, but explained everything to me after
I said "What?"

Said this TQ Conv. is good for somewhere near 600 hp. I don't think
that will be a problem.

Got the Converter in, the tranny mated to the block, and the subframe
mated to the drivetrain. Should be testing by Sunday.

New Tranny is WAY over my head, but I had some excellent teachers with
step by step instructions which I swore to keep quiet and I will, so
don't ask me. I still did soooo much to it, and it is way out of spec
build instructions, so if it pukes on startup I guess I won't be THAT
surprised.

Torque converter needs to be abused. If it survives, I will spread the
word and make it available to everybody. Cost should be about $450.00
to $500.00 with core, but it will outlive anything you can do to it.
Mine was SOOO much more, but I ate the prototyping AND it is a SHO
converter, NOT a SLO converter like most others are using.

Snip.

Fred from Midwest Torque Converters in Rockford, Illinois did the Torque Converter. Have no idea if he is there anymore but he was a **** of a tech.

Thanks for the info Had been looking for a place with SHO tranny's / converters. I had ran into them a while back, but got side tracked with the cooling issues. Hoping to have that solved soon, then the rest can begin...

Just curious. I'm new to the sho I got mine for less than 500 . love my car I've never had a car this fast. Now that I have one I want more speed

Then buy a faster car. If you are on a budget or financial short leash, the fastest way to get in over your head is to throw barely effective "modifications" at an older car. I am speaking from experience. I threw just about every bolt on at my first SHO (and my second) and it didn't do anything close to justify how much money I spent (or how much in credit card debt I accumulated!). It hurt me financially for years.

Get a platform originally engineered to go faster. If you have the cash and this is just a hobby car then do what you will. That's different

Exactly.

I can take a stock 1989 Mustang 5.0 and for less then 3k go bottom 11's with simple bolt on's and nitrous.

All SHO's are niche because they have personalities. Gens 1-3 were different and that is what them awesome. Ford didn't start making them "faster" until the 4th and 5th gens.
