MAJOR coolant problems

I got a slight problem with my coolant stuff. When I have the heater switch to vent, car running or not, coolant leaks out of the passenger side radiator in 2 spots, 1 on the driver side and alot from the back. I went out to my car this morning and the leak had reached all the way to my rear tire. When I leave it off there is only a small drip from the radiator with the car running. I have a small clue as to what it might be but dread to think it's that. help! shrug

edit: Also my coolant light will come off and on randomly, even with a full over flow tank and radiator. And the temp guage will shoot up while the heat cools off untill I spin the motor faster then the temp will go down and the heat will go up.

Replace the leaking radiator.

Start with Steve's suggestion, you can get an OEM radiator from www.radiators.com for $130 shipped to your doorstep the next day. It'll be slightly over $130 with shipping but not too much...it's better than waiting days for a replacement from an auto store.

You can also get lifetime radiators at autozone for $170 if I recall correctly...

I got a new radiator waiting to be put in, oreileys, $179 w/limited warranty. Not bad I guess. But what's up w/the other crap? I really hope it's not the heater core.

Temp gauge could be due to air in the coolant system. And the low coolant light might be due to a dirty sensor. Pull the sensor out of the overflow tube and give it a good cleaning.

All of the symptoms you described can be attributed to the leaking radiator and the follow-on effects of low coolant levels due to the leak.

Replace it and properly fill the system.
