I am new to this community and to SHO motors but not to hot rods. I build hot rod Fords from 1927 to 1946 running everything from Hemis to 409s to nailheads. For the current project I chose a 3.2 SHO. It is now inline with a C4 in a 1927 Model T touring car (I hope the avatar photo made it). Needless to say I joined this forum as I know very little about the motor other than it looks killer in car. One of the reasons I decide on this mill is I wanted to learn about injected/computer driven motors. It appears you guys know how these things work. I just received the MAF and was surprised by its size. You may tell from the photos that size is a problem in a 87 year old car. To keep the project moving forward I need to know the minimum distance required between the filter and the MAF then the MAF and the air valve. Does this need to be straight or can I insert a 90 degree plenum. I attached a few photos. The photo of the finished car is the goal. Should look like it belongs on a Beach Boys album cover but keep up with your SHO. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer. I will have many, many more questions when it gets to the wiring. PM or email me. Thanks again, Jim

I don't know the distances but where are you planning to route the intake pipe & filter? How much clearance do you have from the hood to the intake? The manifold is sort of symmetrical as you can rotate the intake itself 90 degrees if you want the throttle body to face the opposite direction. Might require a small spacer to have it sit correctly. Been done a few times depending on the application. I've seen mandrel bent 90* intake pipe to the throttle body in the engine bay and even out through the fender to get cooler air.

Cool project!

welcome to the addiction! good work on your project.

you need a straight run from the filter to the mafs. it can be only a few inches long if the airflow is unmolested - the factory mafs location is just a few inches from the filter airbox. after the mafs, you can put an elbow, but I would suggest a few inches of straight before the elbow.

Welcome, and good luck with your project. Not sure if this will help, but there are phenolic spacers available on this forum (from OffRoadSHO, I believe) that will allow you to turn the intake 180 if you so wish. Hopefully he will see this thread and chime in as well.
