First ill say what i know about an LPM... LIfetime performance module, it alters characteristics of certain things, like timing, opening of secondaries, and can be used to optimize a MAF i know theres more, but either i dont remember or dont know about it... i also know that a program is mapped or burned on the chip and is plugged into the computer

I also tried seaching, but i couldnt find out where to buy one, i also saw a post about superchips, but i understood that these were different and less effective...

So what are the advantages of an LPM and are there any disadvantages? Where could i buy one or find more info on them... im pretty much in the dark, so any info would be benificial

Here's the skinny on your typical LPM:

Advantages:

- low cost (around $200-250 USD, compared to $350-550+ for a TwEECer or other chip)
- lifetime programming (which, depending on the LPM programmer, is usually free)
- plug-and-play or out-of-the-box performance with little to no work required on your part

Disadvantages:

- inability to make on-the-fly changes to the chip's program (like you could with a tuner or TwEECer)
- shipping costs and wait time associated with mailing the chip/LPM off for reprogramming
- inability to capture data from the EEC for later analysis (as is possible with a TwEECer RT)

Let me know if this doesn't answer all of your Q's and we'll do some more dissecting. ;)

i was looking at a tweecer today, and how exactly do those work? are they pretty easy for the common person to adjust (or common person that knows a lil about cars atleast) and as far as hooking it up to a computer, how does that work, it looked like a USB port with some sort of network looking cable, what can you adjust with one of these?

It is explained quite well on www.TwEECer.com as well as www.eectuning.org

Yes the TwEECer has a USB connection. You hook it up to a computer (PC or laptop) and save your "tune" on it. You then install the chip on the EEC computer behind the glovebox. If you want to datalog in real-time (RT model does this) then you can have a laptop plugged into it (via USB) in the car and see whats going on in real-time. With a laptop you can also make changes without removing the TwEECer from the car (behind glovebox). With the TwEECer RT and a laptop you can "datalog" or record all information monitored and computed by the EEC for analyzing at a later time. In short, you can do MUCH more than an LPM can and the RIGHT way at that. I suggest you do some reading at the aforementioned sites. :thumb:
