Battery light came on intermitantly
Went to O'Rileys and they hooked up the fancy testing rig to the battery cables and it showed that my alternator has " low output".
Do I need a new one?
How much and where is the best place to get one?
Re-built is OK to buy?

What, you think they rigged the test to try to sell you a new one?

Pull the alternator and get it bench tested to be sure it's bad. "Low output" often means a failure in the diode pack which may be repairable.

Get a remanufactured one with a lifetime warranty. That way, you won't have to pay for the new part if it fails again.

Shop around with the various parts stores and find the best combination of price, warranty, and availibility.
