I have a 93 ATX and I am getting a pretty loud clunking sound coming from the rear, sounds like it is from the trunk. It seems to happen most when I hit bumps and take a corner. Is there sway bar links in the back just like the front? Because I had my front one replaced a few months ago and this is a similar sound. If so how hard is it to replace? Any help is appreciated.

Yes, there are sway bar links in the back as well. For the most part I didnt remember them being very difficult to install. I've been having a lot of clunking in the front so I cant really think of many other possible culprits for the clunking in the rear.

could be end links, or it could be swaybar bushings. rear bushings are easy to replace. front bushings can be done with subframe in vehicle but most prefer to do them with the subframe lowered. if you search using my uer name, youll find a small writeup i did about replacing endlinks.

Just real quick I also had a clunking in my rear of my 93 and it was a rear strut mount busted that very well could be the problem

Agreed...this is a very common Taurus "clunk". Try to listen carefully (or have someone sit in the back seat to listen), and determine if the noise seems to be coming from directly under one corner of the rear package tray. If so, you probably have a bad strut mount.

If the noise is lower down, like under the car, check the sway bar, and also grab the exhaust and give it a good shake....broken or loose exhaust hangers can allow the pipes to bang against the underside of the car.

Could the strut mounts go bad with just taking them out and putting them back? It all started when I put in my Konis...

I still need to rip them out... Just got bizy, and had a baby, and moved, and stuff...

Always replace the mounts when you have the spring/struts out.

Mounts are cheap, and there is too much labor involved to tear it apart later when the mount does go south.

Yeah, I know now... I'll do that the next time I have it apart. :D

I have the same problem with my Koni's. I kept loosing the screw in the bottom of the strut, causing slop inside the strut cartridge. My screws were tack welded and I still broke them 3 times. Never beat on the car maybe bad roads, but still unacceptable. The front were replace once and still broke in a couple of months. Got tried of the noise and the hassle too keep fixing the Koni's. I am in the process switching over to Tociko's with new strunt mounts and front bearings. Don't want to fix again anytime soon. Very disappointed in the Koni setup will be selling what i salvage from the change over. Originally built and installed by FPS. :madflame: :madflame:

It could be a loose strut shaft nut. Problem is though, that to access it, you need to remove the strut and spring from the car.
