I have a LOUD ANNOYING clanking noise by my passenger-side wheel only when I am in reverse. I have no idea what it is, and had it checked out and the shop couldnt find what it was either. (dont think they really tried) anyway...is it the front Axle or....what? it is only on the passenger side so the problem is only on that side. Anyone have this same problem? I really wanna get it fixed. thanx

MTX or ATX?

Does it only happen when the car is moving in reverse or will it also happen when stationary, but in reverse..

Put your tranny in your sig, it helps.

only when moving in reverse, it seems as if it is like something hitting the wheel everytime it makes a revolution around. It is a 1993 ATX. Once again it is only on the passenger side.

I put the car in reverse and once I begin to move (backwards) it makes this loud grinding noise by the passenger wheel. Any one know what this could be?

Jack up that wheel and remove it.

Inspect the disk brake caliper and pads, the rotor, the debris shield, and the CV joint boot.

Reinstall the wheel and rotate the wheel/axle assembly by hand and see if it makes the noise by itself. If it does, the source should be easy to identify.

Test the motor mounts per the instructions in the FAQs. You may have a bad one that is compressing too much (or the other is stretching too much) and causing your engine and tranny to shift too much, causing something to rub.

Good luck.

i just had new motor mounts installed 2 months ago. I also can hear a noise when my car is moving in reverse and I am turning. It sounds like something is "dragging". I checked the lining in the wheel wells and they are not loose @ all,so they are not hitting the wheels. What could this be?

this may sound dumb... but do you have a lot of weight in your trunk?

well, I went to Sears and picked up a motorcycle jack. I am guessing it weighed over 100 lbs. Anyways, I heard lots of ugly noises when driving in reverse. If I am not mistaken, I assumed it was coming from the front axels.?
Well,I emptied the trunk, and the noise stopped. Something to consider...
