Bottome line, I hate the damned stock AMP in my SHO! It's a '91 w/o the JBL system, so it has reg. premium speakers all around... And that dumb AMP. I had grabbed a Pioneer deck a while back when I first got the car, but never bothered w/ the amp because I never had a radio to listen to, really.. It was mostly radio off and RACING! :)

Now on to what I need/want to know. If I were to get aftermarket speakers, would it be a good idea to rewire the system from the deck throughout? I wish I don't have to, but will if I do have to. I also want to bypass that AMP or at least make use of the source out back, so would there be an OEM harness adapter to allow me to use the harness w/ another amp?

TIA

Ok here is what I did.

I as well didn't have JBL system. I replaced the speakers and added 2 amps. When I purchased the wiring harnes forthe head unit, I recieved a "Amp by-pass cable" with the package. NOW, intead of re-wiring the whole car .... I cut off one end of the by-pass cable and attached the other end to the amp to where each speaker is located. Thus still giving me both balance and fader controls.

Now if you want ... I could give you a good deal on both speakers and amps. Just let me know what your price range is. When it comes to the world of Audio ........ Anything is possible. burn_out

When I first installed my cd player I got the wire harness with the thing that allows you to set the gains. Once I had all my components I kept that harness because I kept my stock rears. I then just ran my own new wires for my fronts and sub. That was easiest for me without running new wire to the rears. Here's what I got running in my car:

CD Player- JVC KD-SH55
Front Speakers- Infinity Kappa 6.5" coaxials
Rear Speakers- Stock
Sub- 12" Image Dynamics IDQ (unbelievable SQ)
Speaker Amp- JBL 80.2
Sub Amp- JBL 600.1
Wires- Lightening Audio and Phoenix Gold
