I dont know how I managed to do it but i lost both sets of keys for my SHO. I called the local dealer and they said that they couldnt make me a key off of the VIN and a locksmith I called wanted $130 for making me a key! Anyone know where i can get some keys made for my car for less than that in my area?

Maybe buy new tumbers and keys.
I don't think it will be any cheaper.

$130.00 for a locksmith is actually fair. I don't think you will find one under $100.00 but call around you never know. Look for the smallest ad in the phone book they are usually the little ma and pap businesses. Sometime you can negotiate with them.

I was thinking about getting a new cylinder considering the one thats in there is rather loose and sometimes the alarm will chime untill you turn the cylinder forward.

Definantly! You can always unlock the car with the keypad. I have a new cylinder in my car......so basically you'd be like me!:thumb:

The only trick to this is I believe you have to have the key in the ignition to pull the tumbler as there are alignment pins on the tumbler assembly and it won't come out unless they're in a certain position.

From what I recall, you put the key in the tumbler, turn it forward and then push the button under the steering column to release it and pull it out. It might still be doable, but I think you might have to turn it forward with a screwdriver or something. It would further break the tumbler, but who cares if you're going to replace it anyway, right?

About $19 to $25 depending on where you go for a tumbler that comes with 2 new keys. You'll still need to figure out something for the doors, but at least that'll get you moving. They also sell kits that have new door tumblers as well, but it's a bit higher price wise. (like $50ish?)

another idea is if you want to keep the door key and ignition the same, is go to a local junk yard and find a taurus that still has the keys in it, and just take the door locks and the ignition from that....would be a little work, but you can learn how to take the assembly out and then still have matching keys (even though they would be used).

You could probably pick up all 3 for around 30 bucks.
that is how I ended up finding my Keyless entry remotes for my SHO
