Hello new here I am looking at buying a 2016 SHO with 31,000 on the clock. I read alot about the PTU issue and it is starting to turn me away. I was wanting to know more about this to help save it because I love the way this car is and I want to get it but im nervous about it. Any help thanks.

I’ve owned 2, 2013 and now a 2017, both PP, and so far I’ve had zero problems. Of course, both of mine are all stock.

The PTU is not the problem its Ford not giving it a service interval. by not changing the oil this lead to the problem. Find a dealer or a shop to change it every 20k to 30k and get the extended if it makes you feel better. Or if your good with a wrench change it yourself for 20.00 in oil.

Thanks guys this makes me feel alot better. I take it since this car has 31k on it I should go ahead and change the PTU fluid when I get it.

it would be a good starting point so you know what shape it's in and have the piece of mind.
I did mine the first time at 40K it was full and in good shape but time to change it. I have had the car since new.

Same thing with my PP car. I bought it 52k, changed the fluid at 60k (it was in decent shape, but remember the PP cars PTU is liquid cooled). I have then changed it again at 69k along with the RDU (Rear Diff Unit) with RedLine LW Shock Proof Fluid.

I did mine just after I bought it with 6k miles on the odo. The mechanic agreed with me and said it was a wise investment. He also advised to have it done about every 15-20k miles. Same for the RDU. He said the tranny could wait....about every 30-50k miles.

Pretty much every car has weak links. The PTU can fail and will fail if not serviced. But any AWD car will have wear parts that will need replacing at some point. This shouldn't be a deal breaker in and of itself.
