LMS vs Gearhead "Canned Tunes" Comparison

I have a post around here specifically detailing replacing the stock HPFP with the Firestorm pump...

It’s literally....

1: 1 quick disconnect fuel line
2: 1 nut for the high pressure line
3: 2 torx bolts
4: 2 Allen bolts
5: extending the electrical connector by untaping for the wiring harness.

It literally takes 15 minutes.

I was ready to pull the trigger until I saw the price. Thanks for the info, I may still do it. We'll see after the GH tune is tested.

There are quite a few people apparently with this issue of the rpms bouncing off the limiter with traction control on or off.

I have a BCB tune and I have the same issue going from 1st the 2nd, it usually bonces off the rev limiter and shifts. To be honest it happens so quick not sure if I back off before or after it shifts. Fortunately or Unfortunately its does not happen all the time, BCB has been very helpful and is more then willing to figure out what is happening if I could ever capture the issue on a data log.

This perfectly describes the last tune's behavior for my v11 shift Livernois tune. Was it cold outside? Can you relate it to air temperature?

I feel your pain. What spark plugs do you currently have in the car? I'm going to do a couple of more things to my car before I throw in the towel. Been fat, dumb, and happy up until v11.

Gearhead recommended the colder Motorcraft 542 gap between .026-.028. So my shop did right in the middle at .027.

Two questions re post 87:

@OmaHahn: Did your dyno operator capture a/f ratios on those runs? Can you post those?

@LMS: Please explain how that big torque dip that starts at 3500 rpm has anything to do with fuel limitations. If there is enough fuel to make 320+ hp, then why is there a big dip when the engine is only making 250 hp? I can understand that if the pump is limited that would explain your peak number being lower, but not why the number is significantly lower in the middle of the rpm range.

No we didn't capture any data - maybe I should have, but staying true to this Thread, I wanted to compare true "canned tunes," without any other variables. I simply wanted to see which one has more power and if the shifting issues would go away right out of the box.

Is it really? Why did I think you had to pull out the back seat and enter the fuel tank and fight the the lines, the float, and all kinds of other headaches...?

you are thinking of the low pressure fuel pump (LPFP)

That’s the LPFP... which if you have a fuel lock ring wrench... takes 15 minutes to replace as well.

Received my new SCT X4 and did all the updates. Waiting for GH auto octane tune. Up until this week, the only tuner I ever worked with was the LMS. Hands down, I like the SCT better. Looking forward to ordering tunes from others if needed.
Now, I need help totally off the subject. I cannot remember how to update my signature on this forum. Embarrassing.

LOL! I forgot too, took a while to figure it out again. Go to top right of screen and hover cursor over your name that is right next to Inbox and Alerts - you'll see a box pop up and click on signature.

Me too! My car had about 500 miles on it when I installed LMS.

My plan now is sit back for about a year then buy a 16+ Audi S6 and just a stage 1 APR tune will get me more power than all these mods added up.

Funny you say that, because as soon as I heard Ford was going to stop making cars I started looking around and I think my next "nice" car will be an Audi. I don't know if the dealerships and support is any better but it can't possible be worse then the Ford.

If you think you have issues with Ford products, you will find Ford is stellar compared to Audi. I have literally sold a bunch of cars to people who have Audi products still under warranty and they just want to get rid of them because they are tired of having them in the shop. At some point its not the dollars cost, its the lost time cost of dragging the darn thing in to the shop again. A couple years ago, I sold a new car to a guy with a 4 year old A6 who said his car payments for the year on the new car would be less than his repair bills were on the A6 the previous year.

My son had an Audi we faithfully worked on every three weeks. Brakes, CV joints, ball joints, struts, wheel bearings and unsolved by Audi electrical issues that left eternal red warning lights lit. On the other hand, the warning light bulbs never burned out......... PIA to work on. Wasted many Saturdays for both of us.
I'm a Ford guy, and there is a four door Mustang coming in a couple of years. I'll wait to see what that looks like, which is why I'm trying to set the SHO up for another 100k or so.

My VW Jetta (pretty much all Audi parts) caught fire in the steering column while I was driving. Twice. One at 36.2K miles and the other one at 48K miles. Neither one covered under warranty. Had to rebuild the main wiring harness myself.

LOL - Well I have never owned anything but Ford and you all make great points, it depends on how long before I need a new "nice car" if I can still find a nice low mileage SHO that I like that would be my first choice, BUT I got spoiled, I really love the AWD sedan so IDK what I will do when the time comes but Ford is just about dead to me at this point. If I have to buy foreign car I would rather it be European then Asian, but that's just me.

- I had NOT heard that but that's even more stupid then not making any sedans, they did the same thing with the Thunderbird and Cougar started screwing around with it and they are no more. The Mustang is GREAT at what it does, as long as they keep making enough models so one is affordable and one will roast the tires off the rims they will keep selling them for years. Anyway I'll be in the SHO for awhile.

I've owned a 2010 Audi S4 for the last 8 years and not one single issue! Nothing beats the Quattro AWD and the supercharged 3.0 is amazing. Stage 1 APR tune and it's crazy. But it's a very small sedan.
