Best A-to-Z (well, C actually) procedure:

A. Find a qualified, experienced cam welder at: http://www.v8sho.com/SHO/FolksWhoWillWeldYourCams.htm

B. Have them weld your cams.

C. Enjoy driving the car with the peace of mind that you'll never have a cam failure.

Short of that, there are some procedures outlined at the following two links:

http://www.v8sho.com/SHO/CamWeldDetails.htm

BUT, I'll caution against having just anyone do it. I've seen professional welders with over 20 years of experience destroy cams. The problem is that the hollow camshaft tube and the sprocket are two different metals, of different densities and hardnesses. Without a test/practice camshaft to try out various voltages and techniques, it's very easy to burn right through the cam tube, or warp it so it wears away the journal surfaces. On the flip side is not using enough voltage and basically just laying a bead that doesn't penetrate enough and is very suceptible to breaking free (or in the case of a recent customer who managed to convince their Ford dealer to weld their cams, 3 fractured welds on one cam). That's why it's really key to have someone with experience weld the cams. If you really can't get your cams welded by someone with experience, at least do yourself a favor and find a cam somewhere that you can let whomever will be welding your cams practice on first. Worse-case, a $150 new cam from Ford to practice on will still be cheaper than a new motor.

We've bought 3 cars in the past 6 months that were ruined by people welding cams that burned through or warped one or more cams. Great deal for us, but bad for the owners.

Being in Indiana, your best bets would be to try Brad Swinford in Lafayette IN, Rickety in Canfield OH, or Eric Lehmann in Lombard IL. All are on the V8 page linked above.
