My stock CD player ( JBL Premium sound , I think ) are going out. Some work, some don't. Before I take the face plate off, are these little buggers stock or wierd , can't find, items ? Are they the same in the radio ?

I remember reading somewhere that the lights on the stock radios are hard to find items. The thing I read actually gave the part numbers for the light bulbs but I can't remember where the **** I read it. I'd say it's aftermarket time.

Bored so I tore apart a gen 1 and gen 2 cd player this morning. Looks like the lamps are miniature incandescent, soldered into the display board. Look easy enough to replace, if replacements are available. I'll look around to see what I can find. If you're interested in photos, shoot me a PM and I'll send them out.

I actually think I have one I got off eBay a few years ago, but it didn't work correctly. I think all the lights lit up. I'll go check that.

Piece of cake to swap the faceplate, a few screws and one ribbon cable. I would recommend that if you have the spare parts!

That worked .

I did find it's easier to remove the ribbon cable than get it back in. A very stiff connector on the player and the face plate want's to pull it back out, or block your view. The first time, I didn't have it fully seated and some of the lights didn't work and the buttons did nothing. I was thinking my donor unit was bad. Reinserting the cable resolved that.
