I bought my car about two years ago and it had oil in the plugwells. I am just now getting around to fixing the problem and when I took the off valve covers I see sludge everywhere. Do I need to try to clean this? If so how would you guys go about doing it?

That's not terrible....I've seen worse...much worse.

Next oil change, add a dose of seafoam to the oil. Drive it for about 100 miles and change the oil and filter again...using another dose of seafoam. Now, run it for another hundred miles and change the oil and filter (use your favorite oil and filter this time).

Use cheap oil and filter for the seafoam treatments.

Thanks for the fast response. I have a bottle of seafoam ready to go in. I am a total ***** when it comes to fixing a car.

Buy a bottle of this stuff called AutoRX. It's expensive but it is pretty good stuff. My 90 supposedly only has about 70k miles on it but I was never sure. I don't have any before pictures but I used a bottle of AutoRX and ran it a couple of thousand miles. This is what it looked like when I pulled the valve cover to inspect my damaged shim.
