I'm going to change mt corner lights to some LED units from http://www.superbrightleds.com/index.htm

Anyway I was reading their site and they mention soldering on a resister. Now do I have to do this for a single bulb? I thought all I had to do is to swap the lights.

My second question is whether or not these LEDs will dim a bit when the running lights are on, then light up fully when the turn signals are engaged like a regular bulb, or are they simply on/off.

I replaced all my up front lights with leds. I got my 194a leds at auto zone. They work fine. They are bright as **** and they flash. It really cleans up the front if you have clear corners and all :D Best lighting modd yet

Ok and to answer your question (well i think answer your question if i read it right) They make leds that plug right in, to our light plugs. (if that makes since to you). Very easy. lol

well if you are talking about the innermost "fishtanks" on the gen 1's (closest to the grile) the bulb is a 3157... and i think the gen 2's are 3357's for the parking lamps... and if you get a led bulb... make sure it is an ending of xx57. This bulb is one that will have 2 contacts for brightness changes (or regular bulb will have 2 filiments) so it will get brighter with your turn signal.

Although as a warning... i tired some leds in my taillights... and it was very hard to distinguish between parking lights and brake lights.

I took them out.
This was too for the tail lights so they were red... you may have better luck with the amber leds. LED's also have a very poor beam angle... 45 degrees, making them very direct. I have seen some new think on E-bay for these new Matrix LEDs ... i kinda want to try them out but they are kind of pricy. I personally put in some leds in my cornering lamps... i like the way they look. They look kinda "beady" and direct... but they look good i think.

and yes you will need something they call a load resistor or load equalizer so your lamp out light does not go on... and so your turnsignals don't flash fast...

G/L with your LEDS

I ordered over $100 worth of stuff from Superbrightled's, including the resistors.

taillights, backup lights, front corner markers.

Don't waste your money too. From someone who's been there & done that. The ones from Autozone were brighter even, on the tails.

Just an opinion.

Aaah, these seem to be exactly what I was looking for, and for your same reasons. I was going to build custom taillights for my '71 Mustang (drill individual holes at different angles, solder resistors, etc.). Stock taillights on these cars are somewhat big, but not so bright. The thought of what a PITA it would be has held me off though. I definately wouldn't want the car to look ricer with the beady beams, thats for sure. I'm after function as a priority, then form. RI-SHO was working on SHO taillight conversions, wonder how he made out...
I also thought about doing the interior in "hidden" individual LED's. Both of my Mustangs have such poor interior lighting (the convertible really sucks since there is nothing but the rear view mirror map lights...whoop dee doo...). I thought about drilling the headliner retaining rail in the '71 and inserting single recessed LEDs at 6" intervals to make somewhat of a strip light effect.
If you find these Matrix 1157 style at a better price, please let me know. I'd be up for at least 2 sets, maybe 3.

I hear ya... or i'll be making my own... but yes these are the one's i'm looking for also!

I've also found these but the price is so much more... but the quality is probably much better. You have to buy in bulk and i tried talking and setting up a time for a meeting with one of the reps... for like a group buy... but they didn't want to becuase i wasn't a business... jerks

I think I've got something here... I found the site to the Ebay seller... autolumination The price of the MATRIX Bulbs are $17 instead of $19 and shipping is slightly cheaper. BUT! I was looking and they have these "Eagle Eyes" Bulbs... they have more than double the viewing angle of the "conventional LED" replacements. And those go for $13 a peice.

so that's all i have right now... GL everyone!

Look at the specs page, I was kinda looking at thoes inverted ones.... interesting.

Good score on the find, Kevin!

I have an electrical tech question regarding the load equalizers. Does anybody know if they are required for all systems (considering that all of the bulbs are converted to LED)? Are the older systems using the round metal plug in flasher units (like in my '71 Mustang) exempt from needing the equalizers? Wonder if a HD flasher unit will compensate, or do they only work when there is a larger than average draw (ie. trailer lights), not smaller?

194's! i haven't been wanting to spend the money to buy 3157's yet
ahh... that's why... the 194's aren't apart of the "main" parking lamp system... so it isn't picked up with the flasher... or with the lamp out warning lights system! SO you woudn't know if they were lit up or not, reguardless if it was an incondecent or LED... unless you actually look at them.

and MotoArts... I do think you will still need them... probably only for the blinkers and hazard lights... but if you want to experiment with different flashers try it... but i think that a HD flasher is designed for something with MORE amperage so possibly downsizing it might be a trick?? but then this is only for if you are changing out all the lamps in the system... then again this could be a fire hazard possibly? I really honestly couldn't tell you but if you can find out something with the flashers for your older car go for it... otherwise you are stuck with the Load EQ's.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
