93 ATX.. I know I need to replace the gaskets on this car.. 3 months ago I changed the oil and added some Stop Leak, which helped.

Now, if I drive the car longer than 30 minutes, I start getting the smoke from my right front wheel well, which I assume is oil hitting the catalytic converter shield.. used to that, and it seems common out there.

What I don't understand, is all of a sudden the tranny will downshift hard when I am slowing down. Not when I accelerate, just coming to a stop.

Is the oil dripping on some sensor to cause this.

And is this the upper or lower gaskets?

Again, everything is fine for the first 30 minutes or so.. kind of limits my range

thanks, Dave in Denver

3 logical possibilities 1 and my favorite cam seals:espeically the one by the cam sensor always a PITA. 2 and probably your thing the rear valve cover gasket leaks usually by the cams or on the back to check it out you'll have to take the manifold off and look behind there with a mirror or lots of neck turning. Or your 3rd might be the PS pump leaking. Mine smokes on the cat as well today i just replaced the cam seals and crankshaft seals (full day job if you dont know what your doing) they werent even the problem. but as i looked back there i saw the PS pump soaked in oil and the valve cover had alot on it as well, as for leaking on sensors i know your VSS is somewhere around there but you'll have to look under your car with a nice light and mirrors!
