I know I've read the actual size before and I searched and cannot find an answer. I am looking to use a larger size rubber trans cooler hose (3/8) but I need to know the thread pitch and size of the fitting that will thread into the trans...

Any help guys?

get some 1/4" pipe to #8an fittings, and use braided hose for cooler lines to the cooler. Or at least thats the way I'd do it. I dont trust the rubber hose that much (even though it'll be fine)

At least on the G3 tranny the cooler circuit is not high pressure. I drove 200 miles with the hose clamp not tightened.

1/4 inch sounds about right...Teflon tape to seal the threads I guess?

James, I like the idea of braided hoses and all screw-on connections but I dont have the time to order and wait for the the braided hoses and connectors to ship to me. Ill order them anyway because I have an aftermarket cooler with a fan that has either 3/8ths or 6an male fittings on it....IIRC those are the same size, no?

Thanks guys

Use a paste type sealant. Tape may leave solid sheds of tape in the system.

Not sure about the G2 ATX as far as cooler system pressure but the G3 side is low pressure and really no need for braided lines. The G2 does have the cooler ports different than the G3 though.

I traced the valvebody out on my gen 2 transmission. The fluid is under pressure leaving the TC and goes through a huge maze but goes straight to the cooler from the TC. After the fluid is cooled it head straight... into another maze then eventually to you bushings and clutch packs. This is definately under pressure but I don't know how much. my guess would be 20-40psi but that is based on absolutely nothing.

fluid leaves the TC (torque converter) then goes to cooler then goes to cool your clutches. cool clutches are happy clutches.

I picked up some fittings, 8 feet of hose and some high pressure fittings last night...Thread size looks good, we'll see how it works out!

You can drill out the brass hose barbs with a 5/16" bit to get a bit more flow.
