lamp dimmer

I think my dimmer went out. The dash lights were flickering and futzing with the wheel managed to solve the problem for a few days, and now they won't turn on at all. The overhead lamp still works. Is this fixable?

Change the dimmer switch.

Darn, I was hoping I could resuscitate it. It turns on the dash lights when I roll I land it on the contact, but if it is on the spring the lights stay off.

well, I suppose you could rebuild the varister part of the thing, but changing it would be a lot less work...
